Photo Post - Heidelberg
So I remember someone asking about Heidelberg...well we just had to go there then.

I've grown very fond of this kind of jam made of berries called Heidelbeeren, and by the looks of it I thought it was a blueberry but I found out later that its actually a Huckleberry. Heidelberg is short for Heidelbeerenberg which means Huckleberry Mountain. In light of this revelation, I guess Heidelbeeren Hound doesnt have as much of a ring to it as Hanna Barbara may have wanted ;)

But anyways, Heidelberg is where Heidelberg University is, which is Germany's oldest University which was founded in 1386. The town itself was founded sometime in the 1100's.

Anyhoo, photos!

The city is riddled with these swanky fraternity houses. Man...they must have money.

More under the cut!

Another old building...

Even though the streets are narrow they are chock full of cool colors and neat things to look at. This is so cliche!

Photo of the Heidelberg taken from a mountain in...I think Bergheim. Some place we got lost at but was fun to look at regardless...

Bitchin shots! The way I heard it, Heidelberg is one of the few German cities spared heavy bombing in WWII because some movie had recently made folks in the US extremely sentimental about it, and that's why it retains so much of its old architecture and charm. It's the city I think of most when I consider making a return pass through Germany.

You are pretty correct here. Formerly most of Germany looked like this city, but not anymore. The more worthy to pay it a visit, as it still retains that special "atmosphere" you only find with an intact architecture like this. Within the rare possibilitiy you make a pass within the netxt two months, give niko a note. Maybe you guys can meet up =)

*Very* nice shots...I especially like the one from the mountain. Man, this makes me want to go back and visit Hungary again and swing by Germany while I'm at it. Though I know it's much more fun with someone else. Kudos to that pub.

I spent a day in Heidelberg a couple years back. Had lunch in the main square by the church, explored the Castle and the old town, then spent some time sitting on the wall by the pedestrian bridge watching the world go by. Your photos bring back great memories!

Beautiful looking..though now I'm envious and chomping at the bit to go to Germany. But I think there's a coalition here in the states to stop that from ever happening.

Wow, I can see Heidelburg is still the same since I last visited it 5 years ago. If I remember right, that statue in the town square is either the Virgin Mary or some other state. I wonder if you have visited the Heidelburg castle as well.

Yay, familiar scenery! I've visited Heidelberg a few times. :D
Have you taken the Rhein River boat tour yet? If not, you really should. It's fun cruising along the river gawking at all the castles while enjoying good beer and good music.
