Art and a PSA
Ok. I have art for rainbow_roo, but before that I'd like to warn you all that yes, it is a uniform pic, and yes, it has "certain overtones" but please note that it is a Luftwaffe uniform, which is nothing more than the German airforce, and I've left out certain...symbols that are illegal in certain countries because I personally feel it detracts. Their uniforms look almost exactly the same today as they did back then. I should know, I have one right here and I'm looking at it (its not mine its one of Phil's friends', hes in the airforce).

That said, I'm still putting this under a cut because I'm aware folks get offended by this sorta thing but if any of you even think about flaming me for this, consider what I've just said, and also, no ones stopping you from paying me to draw something else.

Raini, sorry its not exactly what you asked for, with the background and everything. Honestly it was way too complicated for me to do, if you want something like that though I can refer you to silber, he does excellent work and he, unlike me, can draw planes =)

Current Mood: annoyed bitter

OMG you drew a German soldier! Their uniform is a different colour from the US one and has shoulder buttons! *Gasp* You even gave them the funny hat! Oh noes!

Seriously, if you're still getting shit over drawing German uniforms as you are commissioned to do then people must be more retarded than I realised. There isn't even that much of a difference between the US airforce uniform and the LuftLuftwaffe uniform other than the colour. I think people just see the bird on the hat (which is, iirc, the German seal) and assume OMG NAZI

Anyway, with that out of the way I'll say nice work on this, I really like the painterly style you've been working with recently. Keep up the good work, and ignore the idiots :)

Actually the commissioner requested that it be time period, which is totally fine for me, hence the modified flag, and the bird on the hat is actually modified to not have the swastika. I feel..weird about drawing them sometimes. Sometimes ok I will but othertimes..ick. Besides, I personally like the cut of the uniform, so the swastika, IMO, detracts from it and people focus on that too much rather than the drawing as a whole. I just really don't need the drama. I'm not a Nazifur, I and my boyfriend actually would really really really not want to be associated with that group despite our affinity for uniforms (of all authorative figure sorts really). I'm just a girl who doesn't have convictions about drawing certain pieces of clothing and also likes the aesthetics.

I wouldn't think for a second that you were a Nazifur (there really is such a subgroup?), and I can understand why you and silber don't want associated with that area, I doubt anybody would. And yeah, the uniform does look very smart, as well as avoiding the appearance of being a suit jacket with badges on it (you've gotta admit, if you wore one of the US airforce ones over a shirt most people wouldn't realise it wasn't one)

Oh, and cute photo in the icon :p

There is a subgroup - yeah. I'm in it. But AFAIK, the people in it really are just *really* into specific theaters of war in our history. WWII specifically. There is a group for sovietfurs I believe as well. Both groups have people who are in it for the history, the uniforms, the war tactics - but _not_ for the bad reasons. The groups in question specifically state that sort of behavior won't be tolerated or accepted. It probably would have been better to name the group HistorianFurriesSpecificallyWWIIWhoAlsoHaveUniformFetishes ...but I guess that'd be a really long name for a group.

Censorship and hiding under cuts annoys me more than I can express politely. If some poor sod is offended by crosses/swastikas, please provide them with the number for a waaaaaambulance. Burying the past only makes it harder to learn from it and there is a lot to be learned from studying German history.

This is not a flame. I angry with whoever it was that prompted you to cut and censor in the first place.

Peace.

The person who promted me to cut it in the first place...I don't even have friended but instead of asking me nicely to "please cut this image it makes me feel uncomfortable" decided to do it in a very rude and flamey way, and ever since then I've felt uncomfortable to post commissions. I even get flack on DA but eh. thats another thing. People are ignorant of the fact that yes, there is a person behind this screen name and maybe they don't have the same hangups as some people. And I agree, I think covering up the past only leads to further problems, but eh, I still personally use caution when putting up swastikas on uniform pics, mostly because I have a lot of German viewers and things like that is illegal to view really.

Sweetheart - that is spectacular!

Don't worry about the background stuff. Really, it's no big deal yanno?

I would have responded to you sooner and in more depth this morning but I was (almost) late for work. I think it is stunning and yes - current and past uniform design is very similiar. I can't stand politics - for me, it is just about the appeal of a uniform and the variety of tones that it can represent. You really outdid yourself as always Dorn. I am not surprised one bit in regards to how awesome this is. Thank you. =o)

I love that it's recognizable as a kangaroo instantly...but also I am lovin' that icon.
