FA - The art of Thornwolf

FA
Well. The FA verdict is up and I can't read my FA messages. They're probably more streams of personal attacks I received over my seemingly "wrong" opinion and, funny enough, my avatar. How convenient.

This blows.

It will be interesting to see how many people who said they were going to leave actually do. I'm not thrilled about leaving but you know what? It's far better to show consequence than flip flop, otherwise people won't take you seriously.

And I have to say honestly for those who were blowing a lot of hot air in the heat of the moment and threatening to leave, I will personally say that if you don't I won't be able to take you seriously anymore. Nothing hostile here, just fact. I'm of the opinion don't write alligator checks your chickadee ass can't cash, or something. I really despise a wishy washy attitude and its that kind of attitude that caused most of this drama in the first place.

There's a lot of things bothering me in the matter, one that sticks out immediately is the fact that the poll was worthless, but eh. Whatev. If FA's policies change again later on in the future I may return but for now I'll just say it's not my cup o' tea and leave the drama where it is.

I'm leaving my art up for a week so people who want to save it on their computers may do so, after that I'm gonna move on.

Thanks.

Current Mood: disappointed disappointed

Definatly good for you. I'm at the point now where really, I don't know how to feel. I'm more irritated then anything else.
I'm more leaving now out of the utter awe at how insane people are.

Yeah thats pretty much it for me too. All else aside, even if there was a ban I'd feel really weird about staying because of how much of a bitchfit there was surrounding it. God. Grow up people.

I mean seriously I had people digging to find anything to ridicule me about even though I didn't talk to them at all, just because I had a different opinion than them. Way to waste time!

Hey Sparkle =) Nice to see you on LJ

Anyhoo, how I feel about it? Weeeell, considering I feel strongly enough to go through the trouble of pulling my art, I'd say I'm pretty damn against pornographic cub art.

I honestly don't feel it should have been a quesiton in the first place but obviously the mods wanted to give it a fighting chance for democracy (which I thought was cool to begin with) but since the poll went in favor of a ban and they allowed it anyways, so much for democracy.

I don't think less of the mods, they were between a rock and a hard place of course, but I have to say it does make me feel a little squicked, and I'd feel weird staying anyways due to the amount of support "the other side" got. Its like finding out your neighbors are dealing drugs out of their home kind of feeling. Icky.

Like I said though if their policies change over time I may return but for now it just doesn't meet my requirements.

I've already pulled my gallery and am going to email them tomorrow about deleting it.

Im still gonna keep it, just no art. I want to be able to tell folks where I am, and yanno, keep my name "mine".

Are you going to move on to a different gallery? I appreciate being able to see people's art and or adult art that they don't post other places. I feel and fear that now its going to be a hunt and peck game trying to find peoples art I adored again. I understand the emotions behind this, and I am not voicing any opinion because I am a very Drama Free Furry, thanks a bunchie... but yeah. I hope I can find everyone. Are you just going to not post anymore adult peices?
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: November 6th, 2006 03:16 am (UTC) (Link)
I will not post any adult art on this journal anymore, no, but if I find another LJ community (locked and age restricted) or another gallery I will be sure to notify folks here. I just don't want my adult art readily available for folks to accidentally find. My stepmother reads my LJ because she's very nosey and thinks I'm 12 and need monitoring, and as funny as it would be for her to get poked in the eye with furry dong (respectfully), I really don't need the drama.

I can understand. I make a simple comment and someone bitches at me for no apparent reason...
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: November 6th, 2006 03:17 am (UTC) (Link)
I wasn't even talking to someone directly and they felt the need to go off and call me a "wannabe Beavis", referring to this icon of course, OH HO HO HO! They sure told me who's boss! They then proceeded to basically yell at me and say my opinion was wrong. Im like "uh..who the hell are you?"
featherlady_jt From: featherlady_jt Date: November 6th, 2006 03:26 am (UTC) (Link)
I pulled everything out of my gallery. I couldn't locate an email, so I IM'd one of the admins asking to have my account deleted. Said admin writes back with "I resigned as an admin saturday because the cub thing blew up so huge and was not handled WHEN I ORIGINALLY SOUNDED A WARNING BELL MONTHS AGO and instead was debated into oblivion and ignored. Thus, there is no possible way I could remove your account.

- ####, ex-admin "

And I'm supposed to sift through the mountains of drama and KNOW this person quit? Oh spare me! Just give me a name, not the drama! 9__9

Yeah, lack of professionalism = reason #37 FA is just not for me at this point in time.

As much as people loathed it I wish people were more professional like Yerf. Like...halfway between Yerf professionalism (which admittedly got to be way too rigid in the last days and somewhat gestapo-esque) and FA professionalism (which in light of everything seems to be "say whatever you want, enforce whatever rules you choose to enforce, look the other way when you see something iffy") and it would be ok. So far I like it on Artspots how the maintainers are being as neutral and open as possible while still having their goals in mind. I guess the main thing I disagree with is the /amount/ of mods there were on FA. I know it takes a lot of work to run a site that huge but too many cooks spoils the soup, and considering all the internal drama that sprouted that seems to be true =/ I hope the FA team recovers after all this, truly I do, there's nothing worse than internal drama when you're a mod and there's a huge decision to be made.
mitsu_chan From: mitsu_chan Date: November 6th, 2006 03:29 am (UTC) (Link)
This whole thing is so ridiculous. I'm pretty damn upset over it.

I don't think I'll be posting art up there for the time being and posting a journal entry stating why- if things don't change in a couple of weeks I'll be taking everything down. :(
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: November 6th, 2006 03:38 am (UTC) (Link)
It didn't need to escalate like this. Even in the "decision" thread where they posted the verdict they're leaving it open when its attracting MORE drama. God...just...be moderators, step in, and don't give the babies their bottles...time to lay in some spankings.

Obviously the "24 hour suspension" thing isn't working because people are saying a final "fuck you" and going down in flaming glory while still getting their chides in.

Way to handle things. 9_9

And yeah I know I'm allowing discussion on my LJ about this but I'm not a multi user forum and I gave up my position of professionalism a long time ago.

Eh, I felt the need to write an entry at least telling people where to find me. I don't feel right just "vanishing", but you know that's hard for me to do anyways.

If people go off on me and say that shit, well whatever, I'm not thrilled with it but those are the types of people I don't wish to associate myself with anyways.

"There are many kinds of activities which are illegal: rape, drug use, incest, bestiality, driving a car too fast, smoking a cigarette in a pub, etc. The list could go on and on...

...Fur Affinity allows users to post art based on all of the above interests with no repercussions."

Given the justification for allowing the cub porn artwork, it makes me want to stay far away from FA. O_o Too much freedom and you end up with anarchy, or at the very least a serious lack of morals.

It's definitely a shame that those who want to leave based on the decision are being labeled as "attention grabbers." There's nothing wrong with sticking to your principles and protesting a decision that you disagree with by leaving. Anyone who would stick by their principles, despite personal costs, headaches, heartaches, etc are definitely richer for doing it.

So where will you host the bulk of your artwork now, Thorn? (Not counting the adult stuff.) ^^;
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: November 6th, 2006 03:44 am (UTC) (Link)
Here as always. FA was a good gallery concept wise. As for adult stuff I don't know just yet.

I..I just still don't know why it's even a question. Its not even like a huge portion of people draw pedo art, but the fact that there was such a huge stink over "PLZ ALLOW IT!!!" really makes me feel icky.

For sticking to your guns and not backing down from something that you honestly believe in. The fact that so many people think this type of art is perfectly ok scares me.

lol thanks! Well if removing my art won me cool points I should be really popular with the pro-cub art folks by now, unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case but oh well XD
reyfox From: reyfox Date: November 6th, 2006 04:22 am (UTC) (Link)
Two words: Poisoned well.

A few more words: I don't think the poll was useless, it was just their way of gauging which way the wind was blowing. If the pro-ban side had won a supermajority (2/3) or more, then they might have sucked it up and kept the ban in place, but the "mandate" of +1 votes just wasn't enough to sway the mods off their high horses.

I don't think my viewership ever really recovered from their first crash anyway (another consequence of problems at the top, another strike against them). I think deleting my art would let me get this behind me. Might wait out the rush a bit though.
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: November 6th, 2006 04:23 am (UTC) (Link)
Poisoned well? Could you please elaborate? I'd like to hear your thoughts, but I'm afraid I don't understand.

I'm packing my bags at FA too, or will as soon as I can reach the site. I'm really sad to go, I really liked the community and the number of people who were able to see my art. But I just can't ignore their decison. I suspect eventually another furry community will pop up to fill the void. I'll definatly make sure to watch ya there when it happens if you decide to join ;)
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: November 6th, 2006 04:24 am (UTC) (Link)
Likewise =)

Every gallery has their problems, but FA was the closest to everything I wanted. But, like they say, you can't have everything, and this was too big of a "something" for me to ignore unfortunately.

I'm not leaving the site (even though I was pulling silently/not publically for cub art to be banned), but I completely respect anyone and everyone who decides to leave for any reason... and I'm disgusted at the people who are all up in arms at the fact that some people would rather disagree by leaving than... I don't know? Flaming back? The fact that these people don't want the "leavers" to have THEIR right to speak out just because THEY want the right to post one kind of art or another is just... wrong.
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: November 6th, 2006 04:32 am (UTC) (Link)
Thats because its a lot easier to flame someone who won't be around to flame back.
doodlesthegreat From: doodlesthegreat Date: November 6th, 2006 04:38 am (UTC) (Link)
I respect your decision to do as you said. The way that the place is getting abandoned is showing what a bad decision it was. I seriously doubt the whiners on the other side would have gone through with their threats the same way.
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: November 6th, 2006 05:01 am (UTC) (Link)
Eh. Whatev..I'm not leaving to teach anyone a lesson, and hey if the mods go "well wait a minute that was a dumb move" I'm not gonna go "haha suckers you get no second chances!", I'll probably come back if the TOS appeals to me. It did before, but obviously there was a problem upholding it. *shrugs* who knew?

Good for you

I was waiting to see how this would turn out... I guess the side of good taste lost in the end.

I'll be pulling down my art within the week as well. It's no big loss to me. Hardly anyone knows I exist. :P But it's still an important move, and an important statement to make. Besides,--and this is something that has been building in me for a while--furrydom sucks.

There. I said it. It may have gotten me started on the road of art, but I've long since outgrown such an immature fandom. It's old. It's set in its ways (cub, vore, and all). And nearly every furry I've met has been a walking horror, hygienically challenged, or a complete and total smeghead. I've never felt that I've connected to anything furry at all (which is probably why I draw so little of it). So yes, it's time to move on. I have my gallery at DA, and I'm satisfied with that. I've got my movie I'm working on, and I'm happy to see it progress day by day. What else do I need? The adoration of a bunch of yiffheads who draw really bad anthro pr0n? Certainly not.

Good luck on your move to other galleries, Thorn. :)

Re: Good for you

There's a few of us out there that (hopefully?) don't fit that furry stereotype.

I'm not as big into furry as I used to be. I don't care if I miss a convention. Furry art is great but most of the stuff that interests me these days is really romantic furry art stuff, art involving uniforms/warfare struggle (I'm into historical warfare stuff), and commissions of my character, on occasion.

I recently found someone who I now call my sweetheart. He doesn't fit the usual furry stereotype either. I've been in the fandom since '98 so to speak - and out of all the people I've met - this person somehow seemed different from everyone (Well, excluding friends of mine, of course). When I say different from everyone - I mean ..the usual sort of attributes that come with furry, right? It's crazy how prevalent that stuff is - so I was totally blown away when I met this guy - we both thought we'd never actually end up with a furry for a loved one. Go figure huh? There's people out there though. Though I would have had trouble believing my own statement about 5 or 6 months ago. But I digress. O.o
saitenyo From: saitenyo Date: November 6th, 2006 05:22 am (UTC) (Link)
It'd be great if the site would ever work properly. I love this: It refuses to load when I want to upload art...and then when I'm finally fed up and decide to delete my art, it still refuses to load.

I clung to FA when Yef was dead because I enjoy some aspects of the furry community, if not all. But now that ArtSpots is around, I feel like there's no point in me sticking around FA regardless of the drama and my disgust at their new policy. ArtSpots has all the aspects of the fandom I like, and that's enough for me.

Plus I was just disgusted by the FA community in general. Not only with the failure of the mods to uphold their own rules, but also with many of the people involved in the debates. Any comments I made trying to explain my reasoning for banning cub art or my frustration with the way things were going wee just met with childish insults. I mean, I moderate a Lion King fanart forum, which is filled mostly with pre-teens, yet the maturity level on Lilymud somehow manages to exceede FA.

Anyway, I'm happy to see you posting on ArtSpots. Between that and DA, I don't really see any issue of having places to post art or keeping in touch with fellow artists.

From: gungho_squirrel Date: November 6th, 2006 06:11 am (UTC) (Link)
I'm sorry- can you fill me in a little bit on what the final verdict of all this drama was? I'm a member of FA but rarely go to or update my gallery. I mentioned to my friend Exodite that I would leave if they chose not to do anything about the pedophilia issue. I still will. However, I've been getting all my news on the goings-ons of FA via updates in other artists journals and everything has been rather vague right now, except for the mention that galleries are -indeed- coming down. I just want to know what the mods said before I remove my gallery, although I assure you I will.

One piece of advice I asked for is- should I delete it completely or leave a ghost with only a journal entry with why I left? What did you do? What do you see your friends doing?

Also, I'd like to put in my help if you or any other artists get together to make a better gallery. I don't know of anywhere to go as of now, so I'm hoping (and assuming) the mass leaving FA will erect a new one. I'd like to help out and be involved in any way I can if you find news of a new gallery going up.

Thanks!

I support you and all likeminded artists Thorn. Funny enough I have already had some furries calling me out because of my uniform fetish when I have made my feelings/opinions known on the issue. Thing is to me - one is promoting harm of a child (Even if it is a fiction drawing, whatever) - while the other is a uniform worn by one or more consenting adults. I draw a distinction there.)

Anyways. I support you - wherever you end up going to - let me know - so I can go there instead of FA. But most importantly - I wanted you to know there are non artists/buyers who support what you are doing.

I bitched my heart out in the forum, of course that didn't do diddlysquat 9_9 Then again I'm a bit biased considering my past history.

what I find funniest of all, is people make their characters to represent themselves in a human aspect, with human thoughts and emotions, baiscally their characters are 'human' but look like animals. Moreso when these characters are anthro's. I lost where I was going with this, but I'm sure you can figure it out XD
