Thank you :) - The art of Thornwolf

Thank you :)
Thanks everyone for your votes. I sent off my portfolio today to The Savannah College of Art and Design. The following pieces were included (in this order) via CD:

1. The King's Mercy
2. Bison Card
3. Berry Good
4. Gladilion
5. La Brea Taur Pits
6. Berserkers
7. Dino Dragon
8. Bacchus
9. Hex
10. Fishbag (renamed to be "cloth study")
11. Still Life
12. Kangavroom

I seriously considered swapping out "Berry Good" for "Fat Bottomed Thorn" because I got a good comment on it from the portfolio reviewer but I guess the furry paranoia made me decide against it. Not only that, it didn't receive as many votes as some of the other alternates I would have chosen as a replacement.

Here's to hoping I not only get in, but I'm able to get some kind of scholarship *crosses fingers*.

yaysauce! I don't know what quarter I'm going to be starting into yet. I'm hoping for fall but realistically it might take me a bit longer to get settled. We'll see! *crosses fingers*

re: scholarships, if i could pull an $18k on merit, you should do just fine. file FASFA (i feel like that's missing a letter or three) ASAP so you're in for need-based scholarships, also.

Merit? Explain? I'm totally new to the scholarship/financial aid thing. I'm a real idiot when it comes to school stuff.

I second the filling out of the FAFSA asap. Even if the government won't give you anything, I think it's also gives the school an idea of what your finanical need is, and the school is more likely to have the money to give.

by submitting your portfolio you're automatically considered for a merit scholarship; aka 'how good is this art, and can ze get better?'. the higher your rating, the higher your scholarship. they also have a combined merit scholarship, which includes academic performance.
I was up for a combined merit full-ride, but my second semester grades senior year kind of... um... sucked. oops. i still took the $18k.
Rest assured, there's something like (i'm making this number up, but it's somewhere near) 85% of students that receive some kind of financial aid through SCAD. i went to their scholarship presentation at a SCAD day not too long ago.
if you do end up going, it'd be awesome to geek out with you and a sketch pad, eh? Also, whats your intended major?

im going into illustration but I had my eye on sequential art. I still have yet to decide between the two but officially I'm down for illustration. And hells yes! I'd love to hang out for an artjam sometime :)

On scholarships: Ask ask ask ask ask!!! ASK for one! That's how one of my friends got a full ride, and to this day I kick myself for not at least asking for one too.

I just wrote my counselor to ask him. I asked him once before but he said to go ahead and send my portfolio out. Don't worry, I'll really bug em about it.

I personally voted for 'Fat-bottomed Thorn' just because it actually made a good artistic statement--furry stuff aside. It is easy to make slender, svelt figures look good, but large ones? Drawing the larger figure was more artistically interesting in my opinion.

Sad Fat bottom thorn didn't make the cut. I loved it for the fat that it shows you can do different wieght perportions. :) Which I think is a ++!

oh art institute 9_9 I went there once with my portfolio and the counselor was like "Omg you have a portfolio???!?!?!?!? :D That is like omg..SOOOO professional!"

And I remember at one point their website said something about the top companies hiring people from AI being Kinkos and Starbucks.

I guess that can happen with any art school really, you get out of it what you put in. Kinda...

Oh SCAD! I was wondering what art school you were applying for. I'm entering in the fall. Good luck with your portfolio stuff! I'm a lazyass and haven't finished putting mine together yet.

As for getting in, you have nothing to worry about.

Also, on scholarships, the school gives them out left and right. if you have decent SAT or ACT scores you can get at LEAST 5000 a year. I wound up with the 5000. Another friend of mine got 15,000 from that. good luck.
