I love scorpions. But I don't particularly want them on my front porch. :>

That's awesome! <3 Stingy. Just be sure to snuggle carefully. I'd like to see more of your scorpion.

The really cool thing about scorpions is they Glow under Ultraviolet light!
talynwolf From: talynwolf Date: September 24th, 2007 11:21 am (UTC) (Link)
I'd be careful very careful, going from the size of the pincers it's a very poisonous scorpion, smaller the pincers the more potent the venom.

it's a spiffy photo though but be careful all the same.

Smashy smashy! I'd run away immediately. x.x Did you kill it or at least put it miles away?
I'm glad these don't live here. No poisonous animals except for vipers in the mountains.

Here's what I would do. It doesn't say how many you need, though.

I'd be careful though...in the US, the smaller the claws, the bigger the "punch" the stinger carries. But, you know, I totally expect you to try to pick it up and stuff ;)

kevinblanchard From: kevinblanchard Date: September 24th, 2007 04:56 pm (UTC) (Link)
yeah I found a tiny one inside my apartment near my front door, where I also happen to keep my shoes. It wasn't in my shoes but I am sure it's caused me some paranoia for months now ;-)

Reason #452362 why I hate Arizona. Check your shoes before you put them on. I've been stung by those little fuckers before. They hurt.
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: September 24th, 2007 05:53 pm (UTC) (Link)
are they wood scorps or what?

These are the kind that get into my house D:

And yeah fortunately I wear open shoes so theyre not much fun to hide out in if youre a bug. But I always tip em over/shake em out regardless. And i check my sheets before bed too.
chenneoue From: chenneoue Date: September 24th, 2007 06:08 pm (UTC) (Link)
Oooooooo! Keep him. You can keep him in a cage of some sort in front of the front door to keep those ebil people out! And then when its safe for them to come in, he can be moved elsewhere. Yes, fear the guard scorpion!
crashcoyote From: crashcoyote Date: September 24th, 2007 06:15 pm (UTC) (Link)
Oh, and an effective way to keep them out is to buy the pesticide granules and spread them around the base of the house. Spraying doesnt work, but the granules will tear their undersides up.
Or you could call an exterminator.

That is one of the few things I don't miss about California.
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: September 24th, 2007 11:58 pm (UTC) (Link)
I never saw one in California, only tons here in AZ. Although Pala can keep their giant tarantulas *gets the creeps remembering the one that chased me to your brother's truck*

I think bugs like you. I really really think they do, what with the Sun spiders in your garage, and the scorpions on your porch..

Maybe they think your a fly. A big juicey fly. A big beer flavored fly. :O
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: September 24th, 2007 11:57 pm (UTC) (Link)
...a bar fly?
_ivy From: _ivy Date: September 25th, 2007 10:40 am (UTC) (Link)
That looks like a desert hairy scorpion. ;) NICE lookin' one, too.

I have a scorpion...he (or she?) was dumped on me, though. I would not keep a scorpion otherwise. Allocer is his name, and he is a great companion. We don't hold him, but my sister finds him absolutely fascinating, as do I. He has a bunch of rocks to climb on, moss to hide in and a big ol' enclosure. I've had him for about 2 years, now. I have no idea how old he was when he came to me.

Yep, we have a TON of them here in AZ. ;) My boyfriend and I had some fun with one outside of his old job, then his friend caught it and let it go on the hill behind the gas station. And, we always see them in the parking lot where we work newspaper delivery. Great.
