Somewhere only we know
Spring has finally sprung here in the mountains! There's still snow patches but it's warm enough to go out and enjoy nature without feeling chillingly wet. So yesterday wa_lawdawg and I went down the road and went for a hike.

Here's what we saw!

Lucky! We're supposed to get three inches of snow tonight. :p Can't complain though. I'm looking forward to the white stuff a little bit, even though I do want spring badly.

Why yes it is! Why do I get the feeling I'm living your life years later? XD Seriously every photo post I make, you've been there already! You beat me, what can I say :3

I can see my old house in a couple of those photos. :) I had a GREAT view of the lake when I lived there. I am SO glad to see there is plenty of forest left after those horrible fires!!
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: February 28th, 2008 08:47 pm (UTC) (Link)
fortunately there werent any fires immediately in our area this time. so thats good!

Now i wanna go see your old house! Which one is it?

In the third photo from the bottom, you'll see a sky blue house on the hillside. It was GREAT sitting on the deck and watching the 4th of July fireworks over the lake. :D

Now that I know it still looks very much the same, I'm going to have to drive up there when I come down in early April. :)

Feel free to stop by for lunch! :D

I'd love to! It'd be neat to see my old stomping grounds, too. Have you been over to Rock Camp on the far side of Lake Arrowhead? If archeology interests you, that's a neat place to explore. You can still see the routes the local Natives took from Pass to Mountains in their seasonal migrations.

I'll be in touch, see you in April. :D

Oh no I haven't! How exciting, I'll have to check that out! You sure know the ins and outs of all my favorite places :D

And yay! See you then :) Weekends are usually best for me because I have school but lemme know you're schedule and we'll work something out!

I'll be exhibiting in Santa Barbara the second weekend of April, but I'll be in area the week preceding that. Could possibly be down there by the 1st weekend of the month, so I'll let ya know. :)

My god I'm envious D: Though I suppose I could always drive to the WA rainforest, or up to Mt. Rainier :>

...or Mount Baker National Forest, or shoot, just up the I-90 to North Bend! TONS of great hiking trails there! Rattlesnake Ledge is always fun - better on a weekday when it's not crowded.

Indeed indeed :) I take it you're a Washingtonian?

I am so fantastically jealous of you!
You live in such a beautiful area, wow. I want to visit SO BAD. omg.
I demand more photos. SO I CAN STALK YOU OUT ON GOOGLE MAPS OOO.
Actually, the google street thing is fucking creepy. We found photos of our apartment complex, and you can see my roommate's car in the parking lot. I don't like that at all. :

Beautiful. :) Wish I had access to places like that... :/

Oh, and those are both male Mallards. :)
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: February 28th, 2008 11:51 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yes. I know :) I just have never seen a brown mallard before.
chenneoue From: chenneoue Date: February 29th, 2008 12:36 am (UTC) (Link)
Really??? I've seen pictures of the white morphs, but never seen one personally.. x.x! Or are you referring to the head color? lol...ah well.
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: February 29th, 2008 12:41 am (UTC) (Link)
ive never seen a brown headed male mallard. lets put it that way :) And the light is just really strong, he was a light cream color with some splotching but with a brown head where his green should be.

I'm gonna have to get some hiking/exploring recommendations from you, as it looks like very soon I'll be living in that general area :D

Beautiful photos, btw! Reminds me a bit of a lake in Maine I used to frequent as a kid.
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: February 29th, 2008 12:41 am (UTC) (Link)
oh really? whereabouts and whats the reason for moving? :)
keovi From: keovi Date: February 29th, 2008 12:45 am (UTC) (Link)
Probably Aliso/Mission Viejo, and moving because of school! (LCAD). It will be quite a change from Oregon, but I'm looking forward to the decreased precipitation ;3
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: February 29th, 2008 12:47 am (UTC) (Link)
Well...that's not really near here sad to say XD But its not like its not within reasonable driving distance if you wish to make a weekend of it (definitely not a day trip..too long of a drive IMO). You'll have to visit and vice versa!
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: February 29th, 2008 12:48 am (UTC) (Link)
PS what happened to SCAD?
keovi From: keovi Date: March 2nd, 2008 06:01 am (UTC) (Link)
It's only about an hour away, according to Google, and I LOVE driving/traveling (despite how expensive it can be in my truck e_e). I especially love exploring new places, so I'm pretty sure I'll be making a trip to the various parks and outdoor excursions in SoCal (maybe even NV!).

And I'd totally be up for a visit some time :3

As for SCAD.. I'd been becoming increasingly nervous about the crime rate, found out that they aren't accredited, spoke with several students/alumni, and decided that the school was probably going to be an even flashier, more expensive version of the Art Institute. I think their facilities were AWESOME, and I liked that they had more majors/better liberal arts.. however, SCAD has a terrible track record of keeping teachers (they only give them one year contracts), and I don't really want an AI experience again. I'll miss the architecture (Savannah is a very pretty city, to be sure), but I think LCAD will probably suit me better, and be about 50K cheaper over the next four years, as well, living costs included.

Did you ever apply to SCAD..? I seem to remember that you did, but I'm not sure.. maybe I'm thinking of someone else Reagan knows?
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: March 2nd, 2008 06:27 am (UTC) (Link)
No you're right. That was me. They rejected me. It took them 6 months of stringing me along, 6 months of waiting, 6 months of bugging them, only to have them tell me "better luck next time, maybe if you try a different school and show us how you've improved we'll let you in".

I fell in love with the city, that's for certain, but I love architecture. The crime rate from experiencing a little of it when I went to see Reagan and Annie...eh..I could do without it really. I admittedly was nervous about it.

Its probably for the best. I've heard the same things you have, but only after the fact. Things happen for a reason I suppose.

And yes please come on over :) We'll have an art jam! And I could have sworn it was a longer distance, but I'm not gonna argue with your willingness to drive!

i know i've said it before but goddamn i'm jealous! rhode island continues to be nasty crap.
the treees.
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: March 2nd, 2008 06:30 am (UTC) (Link)
fortunately it looks like I'll be living here for the next four years at least. Maybe not this same exact cabin, but the same town. Try to plan a vacation when you can! I'll work my schedule around it too :3 I know I keep saying that. People need to visit me more. No one ever wants to for some reason! (its the drive) XD

...lots of people are afraid of heights apparently.

Coolness, Over by the Dam!

You guys didnt happen to see if they were doing anything dogpark-ish by the San Moritz Lodge, didya? Cataroo had mentioned that they were thinking about building a dog park there.
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: February 29th, 2008 03:53 am (UTC) (Link)
Naw it looked pretty vacant. Not a soul around. I saw dogs, but spread out along the trail, nothing dogparkish.
