Earthquakes and skunks
Thank you for everyone who called to see if I was alright, regarding the massive earthquake we had here in San Bernardino.

I'm okay. My house is fine. Fortunately I'm on solid rock up here in the mountains so I didn't feel it as badly as the people in Long Beach supposedly did, which is good because I'm closer to the epicenter. I had just enough time to bolt to a doorway before realizing "oh crap that's the old school method I'm not supposed to be doing this oh wait it stopped".

It means a lot that you guys cared to check on me though :3

Buuuut I didn't get off /quite/ scott free though, as I and my house have been skunked and I spent the day reeking.

So, I'm going to have to take a bath in tomato juice and milk tonight. Fun stuff. The house smells, all of my clothes smell. The dog, however, smells like dog. Lucky jerk.

Anyone know of any home remedies for getting a house interior to stop smelling like skunk?

Current Location: San Bernardino Mountains
Current Mood: sore stinky

Believe me. When you've been skunked, you know it.

Talk to Stego. He had something like this happen about six months ago. The dude found a cure.

I saw on Mythbusters that they were the most successful in getting rid of the skunk odor from a bathroom by using a combination of Hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and liquid dish soap.

as i'm in a totally earthquake free zone... why aren't you supposed to be in a doorway anymore?

Well technically I might still be okay because my house was built in the 50's but in the newer houses the door frames aren't any more secure than the rest of the house because of the way they're built. Nowadays the correct method is the "triangle of life", where you crouch, covering your head, next to a large sturdy piece of furniture. That way if the ceiling falls, it will fall on top of that furniture and slant down, creating a little pocket that you'll be safe in. They've found more people alive in little pockets rather than underneath tables, which you can be crushed by.

I'm in an older home where the doors are part of the main joists. I've about a dozen good locations to get under if need be.

Hmm, the more you know! I'll have to file that away for future reference, especially if I end up moving out there to Cali.

Do you have home owner’s or renter’s insurance? If so I’d contact then to see if they can help you out with getting your place professionally cleaned because that’s what it’s going to take to clean a home that’s been skunked. We had a client who had a situation like that. The insurance paid for it.

Nope. Don't have renter's insurance. Wish I did! The house is airing out pretty well right now though. Its just my clothes that need special attention. >_<

Btw, did the tomato juice bath. I now smell like spaghetti-o's

I've seen skunks around here, and smell them every onece in a while, but still having your house skunkned is just awful enough. Though about a year and a half aogo, gove or take a couple of months, there was a dead sjunk out on the street in front of the condo building I live in, the smell made my eyes water. Funny thing though was seeing cars swerve around it too keep from squshing it and making abad situation worse...

I had nothing to do with the skunking, honest!
