Hot Buttered Rum Recipe
Been getting some questions about this so I figured I'd share mine and skorzy's (well, mostly Emerill's) recipe for hot buttered rum mix.

* 1 stick unsalted butter, softened
* 2 cups light brown sugar
* 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
* 1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
* Pinch ground cloves
* Pinch salt
* Bottle spiced or dark rum (we use Sailor Jerry's spiced rum, has a nice caramel flavor)
* Boiling water

Directions:
In a bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Refrigerate until almost firm. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the butter mixture into 12 small mugs. Pour about 3 ounces of rum into each mug (filling about halfway). Top with boiling water (to fill the remaining half), stir well, and serve immediately.

Happy Hot Toddy Everybody!

OMG...I've GOT to try this O.O If our SCA Yule Feast location allowed us to have alcoholic drinks, I might be tempted to make this ;)

Do you think it would work well if I were to just dump everything into a big pot and heat on the stove so then people can just spoon it into their mugs and serve themselves sorta thing?

The problem with that is you'll burn up the alcohol, and you certainly don't want that :)

Oh, that's right too, I didn't think of that XD

I wonder though too, since I've only tried Rum once - I tried sip of straight Captain Morgan and...it smelled like something that my dad uses to seal and protect wood or something! XP

The kind of Rum you mentioned here, is it simular to Captain Morgan? Or has a different taste to it?

Captain Morgan I'd consider low end. Sailor Jerry's, while affordable, has a better taste to it. Also, Trader Vic's spiced rum works well for this as well and has a smoother taste. Don't use Captain Morgan.

LOL! I don't think I could ever try Captain Morgan ever again! I could barely even swallow that one sip I had taken of it, very powerful stuff >.<

The guy who brought the Captain Morgan was like "Well, better not waste it!" and he took whatever I had in my mug and just downed it like it was water O.o;
