Contest! ..of sorts
I've done this before and had amazing results...but basically what I'm looking for is help with art ideas!

As a lot of you know, this year's theme for Further Confusion is the California Gold Rush. Now, I am a HUGE fan of that era as well as the history of my state, but I cannot for the life of me figure out a good or even remotely interesting thing to draw to fit within the convention's theme!

Everything I've come up with so far has failed to win the approval of test audiences, so I figured I would ask the creative geniuses who watch my live journal:

"Can you please give me some ideas of what to draw that fit within the theme of the California gold rush?"

What's in it for you, you might say? Well I'll tell ya. Whoever's idea I choose will receive a matted high quality print of the drawing as well as credit for the idea on my respective galleries :) I figure you deserve something special for your contribution!

So, send me your ideas! You can either comment here or email me privately at thornwolf227@gmail.com

I appreciate your help!

Thank you :)

I admittedly have the image of those long wooden things (Techical names go!) the water ran down for working being treated like a self log flume much to the disgust of the other more harder workers.

I don't know why but it's honestly the first thing to spring to mind, might give a laugh if nothing else :)

Let's see ... before any suggestion, I'd be curious to know where you 'failed'; can you, please, describe me the contents of your previous ideas? I'd like to analyse a couple of things if possible.

For whatever reason, I keep on thinking of a gold monster or some sort of gold golem or beast. Maybe a remnant from an ancient culture/natives protecting a sacred ground from over-eager prospectors?

I'd think somethng simple would suffice...an anthro-beaver panning for gold or something similar.

Gold panning! Gold dust! Standing in rivers and picking at the riverbed lookin' for gold. :P I'm pretty unoriginal, ahaha, I think this is right up your alley though.

all I can think of is the Ecstasy of St. Theresa....explain?

Well, it's an oft-covered bit of score from "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly",

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecstasy_of_Gold

but you could also just see if the phrase itself inspires anything.

People were a bit scary during this time....

....a mule drawn wagon loaded to the hilt...but a city gal is involved and had her guy load the wagon soo much the mule can't get any traction.... ;}

How are you at drawing bears? Since there's a bear on the California flag, having one doing gold panning, running a sluice, using gunpowder kegs to blast a mine, or carousing it up with a coyote saloon gal could be good tie ins.

How about the prominent members of Deadwood, but as furries?
