Avocado Pie! - The art of Thornwolf

Avocado Pie!
I saw this in Food Network magazine and was amazed that someone actually made avocados into a pie. Since I absolutely love avocados, I had to try it. The best way I can describe it is it has the texture of a key lime pie and some of the citrus flavor, but its sweeter like sweet cream ice cream. In fact, its very similar to avocado ice cream in flavor if you've ever had that. It's more of a novelty than anything, in my opinion anyways, but you can amaze your friends with this odd dessert, they'll think you're so adventurous. A bonus is that its really easy and inexpensive to make!

When was1 came for a visit he requested I make this for his birthday, and so I did. Opinions: was1 seemed to love it, skorzy liked it but agreed that it was a weird "how do you explain this" flavor, and I was kind of "eh" about it even though I love avocado. This mostly has to do with the fact that I'm pseudo allergic to avocados (shame! I know..) and in only certain applications (about 1/3 of the time) they give me that mild but uncomfortable itchy-mouth/throat allergic reaction, but again, only sometimes. This was one of those times. I think its only when avocado is combined with citrus, I haven't been able to figure out why its only sometimes and not other times. But eh, its more of a "hey look what I can do with avocados" than something I'd crave anyways.

lol yeeeeeah I wouldn't either. Like I said, its more of a fun thing like "oh hey this is weird!" but its not like you'd crave it I don't think. I can't eat it anyways, so, problem solved! :D

You have the same reaction to avocado as me :) I'm allergic to like... everything though. But I get the same histamine reaction SOMETIMES with avocados like you. That pie looks delish. I would totally try it :D It looks really, REALLY rich though :o

You too? That's so weird that its only SOME of the time. I also have an allergic reaction with certain raw vegetables, raw corn being the worst. It's related to sinus allergies I've heard. Whatever pollens/grasses you're allergic to, you'll be allergic to some kinds of raw vegetables.

And yeah its really creamy. There's a whole block of cream cheese in there D:

Sometimes you will find things there that make you go, "ooh, I want to try that!" and other times you go, "HOMG, how did people EAT that?!"

Not reaaaaaaly related, but if you haven't seen them already, you should definately check out "The Supersizers Eat..." - it's a wonderful mini-series from the BBC. (Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oH5O_fCstyI) You seem awesomely foodie enough to enjoy it!
