California Adventure Pt. 6 - Moro Rock Sunset
Before being distracted by bears, we were on our way to cap our trip with a visit to Moro Rock to watch the sunset. When skorzy did his trip 2 years ago, the sunset crowd consisted of about 30-40 people on the rock at a time so we wanted to get there early because there's MAYBE 8 parking spaces in the actual lot.

Moro Rock is a granite outcropping that the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) built stairs on, into, and around in the 30's. The stairway is made of 400 steps. You feel every one. But I conquered the stairs in Heidelberg no problem, and the view is SO worth it.

There was a fire in King's Canyon which was causing a lot of the smoke and haze. Funny, there was a forest fire in King's Canyon when skorzy was there 2 years ago. Oooooh California.

Most of the people on top of the rock were pretty chill, and there really weren't a lot of people there. 10 or so, give or take. As sunset neared the people started to disappear.

One funny thing though, there was this grandma type with a family group who we totally thought wasn't going to make it up all those steps. Slowly but surely, we saw her at the top! Congrats!
Had this brief encounter with her husband though...

Daughter: Oh look at that patch of snow over there! What is that?
Husband: That's permanent ice. What do they call that?
Me: A glacier! :D
Husband: NAAAAAAAH! That's not a glacier. It doesn't even look like one.
Me: *knows full well it's a glacier* ;/
Husband: What do they call permanent ice? Perm..a....Permafrost! No wait, that's what they call the first snow of winter
Me and skorzy: *stifling giggles*

We were up there early so it was a long wait for sunset.

After the sun faded, we drove to Visalia, had some Mexican food and stayed at an Econo Lodge, where I totally channeled Reno911 when I said "This hotel reminds me of a place you'd want to go to get a good ol' fashioned raping or a down-home murder!", the room was better than the one we experienced at the Best Western in Fresno, and cheaper too. So, if you visit, don't discount the Visalia Econo Lodge!

Oh as a bonus item, skorzy recently put together a fast-motion video of us setting up our tent. I find it amusing because I noticed that I don't turn left in this video, I just spin around in a right handed circle. Clearly I'm not an ambi-turner.

And thus concludes our trip! Thanks for viewing our photos :)

(And just one more time because skorzy hates it and it IS a close up sun pic...)

Wow ... I took a look at all your previous post. There're so many things I'd like to say, but one emerges above them all: Those places are just IMMENSE in so many ways!!! I'd feel so humble and small before such wonderful views.

Really, there aren't enough words in my vocaboulary to express and describe my impressions. Thanks for sharing everything with us! :D

PS: sorry if didn't comment lately, but I'm trying to avoid my computer as much as possible. :P
