Cali-Thorn-ia Adventure - El Dorado county (mostly Placerville) and surrounding areas

Its been awhile since I updated with more vacation photos.

I went up to visit smokepaw in his home town of Placerville. I had never been there so I really didn't know what to expect. Buuuut upon further investigation...I'm totally sold on the place. Its GORGEOUS. And! Its within reasonable driving distance to Sacramento :D

First, a song to go with the photos as always

The Wallflowers - The Difference

A little brief (golden)nugget of info, Placerville used to be and is still commonly referred to as "Hangtown" due to the massive amounts of hangings that occurred there.
Also, one of its more notable residents is that jackass Thomas Kinkade. I KNOW WHERE HE LIVES NOW GUYS! >:D But overall, its an awesome western town with a lot of cool scenery and history.

I mean how perfect is that?

So without further ado, (ok are you ready for this? cuz I couldn't resist the opportunity)..

Cali-Thorn-ia Adventure - Sutter's Mill

No song for this song as I'm posting this while I'm rushing out on my way to work.

smokepaw took me to neighboring Coloma, to Sutter's Mill, the site which started the California Gold Rush. Gold flecks were discovered in the American River, where the mill was located, in 1848. Today, this town is a little more than a ghost town, completely quiet, little activity, its hard to believe that this place was one of the busiest towns in California, and I believe the state capital at one point.
