well that was kinda cool
watching "close encounters of the third kind" and i realized that they made a blatant reference to this movie in an episode of Rocko's Modern Life. its when Filbert has to go to Kerplopagos Island to become an adult and Rocko and Heffer have a big tall birthday cake for him, and Filbert flips out and carves the cake into the shape of the island. It parallels the scene where Richard Dreyfuss molds the dirt and leaves into the shape of the mountain in his livingroom.

i love finding stuff like this...i am pleased =)

I am a huuuuuuuge Rocko fan.. *loves Filbert*
Too bad Nickelodeon sucks, and has such bad taste lately that they had to remove it for the most part, along with Ren + Stimpy. I suppose they thought it was too "gross" for little kids.

But yea, I think that this epidsode of Rocko's Modern Life was actually making fun of Close Encounters of the Turd Kind (hint: little pun there concerning kerplop-agos.. heh). It wasn't the other way around.

Good observation, lol..

not sure if this posted twice.....hrm..

i could just prattle off Rocko/cartoon trivia for hours!

yeah im pretty pissed at Nick for getting rid of the classics. although the new ren and stimpy is just AWFUL and would not reccommend it to anyone. have you seen it yet? its one big half hour long cartoon of pure shit!

i hated the changes they made to Rocko to make it more PC and "kid friendly" ie:

-Chokey Chicken turned to "Chewy Chicken" to eliminate the masturbation reference
-the episode where Heffer goes to the farm, that whole scene with Heffer and the milking machine was deleted, making the entire toon a helluva lot shorter
-the pilot episode of Rock with the vaccuum, where the vaccuum has a button that has a picture of a dog minus 2 baseballs and rocko says *ill save that one for later*...i dont think they played that anymore and/or they deleted that scene
-the episode where spunky falls in love with the mop, they change the phrase "mate with it" to "love with it" and they got rid of the sounds coming from the closet...*sigh*

see..told you =) *shuts up now* btw, welcome to the insanity that is my journal ;)

Y'know, I think I remember that scene (I knew the reference at the time, which is probably why it sticks in my memory...)! ( I used to watch Rocko many eyars ago... that was a well done cartoon. :))

I also like it when I "get" the "hidden" things and inside jokes in cartoons- some cartoons are full of 'em!

ooh! then i highly reccommend the Clerks cartoons if you havent seen them already. it basically has no writing of its own, its all references but VERY VERY VERY well blended to make the viewer THINK its clever writing =) a must rent. *no..im not biased or anything..*

hell i have em, next time im out in havasu you are more than welcome to watch em with me =)
