As we went further south, more smoke..and flames coming over the hillsides towards the freeway. As i mentioned before, there was a fire by my aunts house and she had to evacuate all her animals. When i got to mom's house, the sky was so black with smoke and lit up at the base that i knew that the fire was close. I called Travis, and after we bought some art supplies and ran some errands, we went looking for the fire. We first checked my aunts house to make sure it was still there. the house was there, but the fire was right up against her property. the neighbors were making a fire break, clearing brush away to hopefully stop the fire. I saw that my aunt's neighbor/friend Casey was still there and hadn't evacuated her horses yet. she was leading the team to build the fire break and told us where my aunt Jan was and that they were going to hope for the best.
Travis and i then drove around town to see where the fire was in relation to everyone's house. He kept worrying that he was going to have to evacuate his house because the fire was on the hill behind him. You could see it all from my old elementary school. From what Jaime told me, they had to evacuate Pomerado Hospital (where i was born) just to make sure they got everyone out in case the worst should happen. We drove up to Twin Peaks, fire on both sides of the road. We drove up Espola past Poway High, the fire was absolutely everywhere. It was running parallel with Poway Road and getting closer and closer to the houses below. We had gone through the neighborhoods in Poway and everyone was watering down their house as they were packing up their trucks *everyone has a truck in Poway*.
I kept calling tiff and giving her updates. I cant believe it, my hometown was TORCHED!
luckily, the fire break saved my aunts house and she was able to come home around 8 at night, but shes still missing one of her horses.
2 of my mom's friends lost their houses, one of which is where a childhood friend of mine lived =*(
I just cant believe it. We drove around town yesterday and the fires were still burning. I feel like were living in this biodome of ash and smoke and theres no escape. i dont wanna go back outside, i cant breathe at all. All the businesses are closed, and yesterday, the mayor begged that we all stay home, no class, no work unless you were essential to the city of San Diego...just stay home. The entire city was shut down almost completely. Apparently Bush has declared San Diego a disaster area. Great, i always wanted to live in a disaster area. =*(
Gray Davis is trying everything he can to stop the remaining fires, theyre still not under control. *sigh*
I'm at Travis' house right now. i dont have a computer at mom's house. I was supposed to meet my grandma because she has a present to give me, but shes at Jan's house helping her put everything back in her house. i cant believe how close she was to losing everything.
going to go lie down now. the smoke's causing my allergies to act up.
