Good cars go to heaven. Or something.

First cars are something special, and there'll never be another first car.

Mine was a '63 Valiant, a Detroit-area car, so because of all the crap they put on the roads to keep them clear in Winter, it was mostly rust held together by will and a prayer. But that slant-6 engine would last forever. I paid $175 for it. Shortly after that, my somene backed into my dad's car and broke the taillight lens. He did not appreciate me pointing out that it cost more to replace his tallight lens than I'd paid for my entire car.

I packed him to the gills when I left home, had adventures with him in New Mexico on the way to California, and he got me back and forth between California and Washington several times.

Then one day I left him parked overnight at my ladyfriend's apartment building, and he was towed, and I was so poor then that I couldn't afford the $40 to bail him out. I never saw him again. :(
