IMPORTANT
Sorry to do this, but I honestly didn't think anyone would sign up. I've been had as well.

According to this thread in xianjaguar's LJ, GreenZap is a scam.

The address of their business leads to a Postal Annex in La Jolla, CA. Since I said I'd personally kick their ass if they weren't legit, it looks like I may just have to go "postal" on their asses =D

Current Mood: apathetic apathetic

as I said to kulhain in your journal, I wonder if there's a way to report this as an internet crime.

Well...so far they technically haven't done anything illegal YET.

I mean, giving them the benefit of the doubt: they COULD be a small start-up company with big ideas, and they don't HAVE an actual office yet. They might have all their ducks in a row, but we don't know it. Right now it just SOUNDS fishy, but there really isn't any hard evidence of criminal doings.

They aren't taking bank numbers, or even asking for SSN's or any info other than mailing list info.

I guess we have to sit back and wait and see.

according to demonvaska's recent journal entry, this is just one part of multiple schemes done by one person who is a known scammer. At this point I'm convinced its not legit, and although nothing bad has been done /yet/, it is still illegal to claim to be something as sensitive as an online funds transfer service with the intent of collecting bank accounts in the future. I guess I'd rather see about stopping the problem before it grows, i already feel bad enough for being gullible ;P

Well, I signed up, and like you said, it's only and email address and mailing address sent out. (I technically don't even live at my mailing address right now, thank you house fire.) So if there's anything, it's not too bad.
chlorophyta From: chlorophyta Date: April 20th, 2005 10:25 pm (UTC) (Link)
Well, at least they didn't ask for credit card stuff. I figured it was a bit shady... the whole $25 free... yeah, right. ahh well. live and learn.

Actually, when the 'thank you for signing up' email registered in my mailbox as spam, I began wondering if something was up... >

well, at least we know g-mail works =D *hugs her inbox*
the_wormwood From: the_wormwood Date: April 20th, 2005 11:30 pm (UTC) (Link)
Well, I'm as guillable as the rest I suppose. Funny the hoops I'll jump through to get a measely $25. *laugh*
Anyway my inbox marked it as spam too... I figured something was fishy then. Luckily no crucial info. such as bank/SIN numbers got out.
hellhound From: hellhound Date: April 20th, 2005 11:37 pm (UTC) (Link)
Eh, I wondered about that. Especially because of the links on the main page. "Accountz", Servicez", "Rewardz". I just can't see a company using chat speak like that, even if it's supposed to be catchy because they have a 'Z' in their company name. Plus, the whole $25 thing sounded too good to be true.

Can't say I'm too worried though. They didn't ask for bank info or a credit card. Not much they can do with e-mail and address. *shrugs* keep us updated though :)

*sighs* I signed up too... but liek sadi above, there was no credit card or bank info asked thankfully...

Wow! Long time no see (mostly because Yerf is kaput, but how have you been? Well the reason is that now, your Icon carries none of the earlier stylistic cues that your stuff used to have. It's vaguely familiar, but different enough to cause doubt. "-) Cheer up, you aren't a TLK clone any more. :ooks good!
