Because I don't talk enough in this journal
Quirks I have

Whenever I put down a glass of whatever I'm drinking, I check the palm of my hand, /especially/ if there's condensation on it.
I'm not looking for anything particular I just always check

I never like to drink out of the same glass. If I'm at a restaurant or at a friends house I don't wig out nearly as much but if I'm at home
if I get a new drink I get a new glass. This is mainly due to the thought that sometime between me finishing the last cup of whateverI drank and the new one, bacteria has had time to grow in whatever remaining droplets that were in it, so I get a new cup. This is why I keep a lot of those red and white beer cups around so I don't have to do so many dishes

I periodically tap my right butt cheek in a wallet checking motion cuz thats where I carry my wallet,
but I sometimes do it way too often even if I'm wearing pajama pants with no back pockets

I'm really creeped out by anything going near/touching my eyeball. Ever since I saw "Fire In The Sky" when I was little I've
seriously freaked out so its kind of hard for me to put on eyemakeup or get a makeover at a shopping mall.

I don't like swimming in water that has sunken or otherwise submerged man made machinery like airplanes or ships or even skittering pool filter.
It freaks me the hell out. For example, if you tossed me in the water at Disneyland's submarine ride I would probably pass out from terror of all
the friendly little sea monsters and plastic sharks surrounding me.

I always have to sleep with something covering me, even if its only a sheet and even if its really hot.

Whenever I think of an unpleasant thought or embarrassing thought when I'm alone, I count backwards from ten very loud.

I sometimes move my butt cheek muscles to the tune of music. I've tried hard over the years to stifle this though so I
don't do it at inappropriate times.

I give personalities to numbers/colors/inanimate objects. For example my keys are real bitches and don't even get me started
on the number 9. Numbers, letters and words also have assigned colors to me, but that's something else entirely.

When I was younger if my hand brushed up against something I had to touch that object with every finger of mine before
I could continue on. Thank god I got over /that/.

What quirks do you guys have?

Current Mood: quirky

Complete ditto. I thought i was the only one with the weird sleeping under something freakout.
Uh, yeah. the butt cheeks is a really bad habit for me. music, or if i'm sitting on the back of a chair when it really digs in.

I'm kind of like. Even if it's just a bedsheet, I prefer to sleep with something over my pelvic area regardless of how hot it is.

I talk to my car (who has her own personality).

I do Kegels at work, sometimes without thinking about it. I'm sitting down most of the time. ...I do a lot of them.

I hate kissing or anything touching my mouth or face. It makes me intensely uncomfortable and claustrophobic. For the same reason, I don't mind insects on my arms or hands but I absolutely hate it when they get onto my neck or face.

I don't ever buy shirts with buttons on them, especially the cutesy decorative kind. I'm ok with buttons on jeans or coats, I just don't like them touching my skin. I've been this way forever and have no explanation for it.

Most of the time, in the car, I only listen to the 'good half' of a song before skipping to the next song.

Re: the face touching things, I don't eat messy foods or ribs for the exact same reason. Ick ick ick!

I have a horribly bad habit of singing songs in my head, but forgetting abut internal monologue and randomly belting out a line. Usually at work, which tends to be bad.

I explain things to myself out loud in full blown detail. This can be anything, from why something isn't working to why I decided to eat soup. It really gets me odd looks and I'm really trying to curb the habit.

I've gotten over this one (minus the ocean part >.>), but when I was little I was absolutely terrified of swimming in the ocean, pools or even taking a bath thanks to seeing Jaws. I can't even begin to explain the bath part.

I like to skim my fingers over walls as I walk.

I'm exceptionally paranoid if people (minus a certain few) hug me for too long. I always worry about why they're holding on to me so long and if they've got something in their hands.

Number 3? My mother still does that. She won't swim in indoor pools even because the moment she hits the water, she hears the theme song.

I often do the Dance of the Butt Cheeks myself when listening to music. I just go ahead and enjoy it though, figuring that if nothing else at least I'm helping to keep my rump all perky. ^_^

Feeling that items have personalities is quite common, and is the basis of "primitive" religions of all kinds; Animism I think it's called. Feeling that numbers have colours, or sounds have tempratures or that tastes have textures is a pretty common experience as well. I think it's called.. uh.. synasthesia. Sensing something unrelated to the actually experience stimuli.

The mind is an amusing playground of unrelated convolutions. :D

My own quirks include: Panicking while eating crunchy food, because I'm always worried that I've broken a tooth and the bits of crunchy food might be broken tooth bits. (I have broken teeth a few times while eating, so this fear isn't entirely unfounded. Just annoyingly persistant.)

I'll often leave my scentences hanging: "So this and that was going on and of so of course..." And I leave it up to the listener to fill in the, to me at least, obvious blank.

I always get very depressed after making love. *bleh*

Dude I've got synesthesia too- it's one reason I can't do math in my head. Some numbers just refuse to get along. >_

YEP! That's it. Sometimes smells have colors too (although not necessarily the other way around). Its freaking weird but cool!

I can't do math in my head because I have dyscalcula or however its spelled...I don't have an "imaginary blackboard" in my mind most people have when they do mental math. Mine feels like someone's erasing it as I'm writing it.

Ooooh! SILENCE MINIONS!! Thornwolf speaks! ^^

"I give personalities to numbers/colors/inanimate objects. For example my keys are real bitches and don't even get me started on the number 9."

Hee! I name almost everything, especially my plants! And I'm abusive to inanimate objects if they piss me off! XD For instance, if I thwack my toe on something (let's say it's a desk) I'll proceed to BITCH SLAP THAT MO' FO'!! And if something drops or falls out of the fridge I say to the object: "Yeah, I love you too." T_T

"Numbers, letters and words also have assigned colors to me, but that's something else entirely."

Man, I know I've heard something about that a long while ago...If I remember correctly, it's a good thing that you have that ability. :D

I can't seem to walk in a straight line for very long, which means I bump into people/things constantly. This irritates me because some folks have made the joke that I drink too much, which is annoying, to say the least. (I don't drink THAT much...)

I say "Churkey" instead of "Turkey", and it drive my folks crazy.

I am a horrible loser when it comes to card games. I get so ticked off, for such a petty little game of blackjack!
Speaking of card games, I never win. I may win one big hand, but I lose the rest of the game. Always!

I sometimes think of more than one thing at a time, and try to talk about one subject. I end up leaving the listener confused because I somehow blend the two ideas together to make absolutely no sense. What's even weirder is that I sometimes don't realize what I just said, and spend ten minutes arguing about what I just said.

I have a habit of abandoning socks in the most bizzare places around the house, most times I'm not even concious of taking them off.

I can never finish sketchbooks, I always leave a few pages at the end and get a new one or two.

I really get into video games, even when I'm all alone. I'll talk to them and laugh over the stupidest things. The same thing goes for watching wrestling., especially when a certain someone shows up (or doesn't).

I flinch when ever a bird flies over head.

I used to eat erasers of the end of my pencil, and then I'd by those arrow head tips and eat those too. Actually, I still like to naw on them, but no more actually eating them.

And that's all I can think of right now. I'm sure I have more, but like I said, I'm hardly concious of what I do half the time.

Oh man I do that buttcheek thing too. Except not so much now cause it's hard to keep me sitting and not dancing if there's music that I like going on.

With music, I can go anywhere from annoyance to full blown rage when people skip songs I like, or skip songs constantly. Drives me crazy.

I like to imagine that when I yawn, it looks like a big lion yawn, and when i do that I kinda stick my tongue out.

When I run, I usually gallop, where one leg's in front and the other in the back and it's more a springing motion than a running one. Sometimes I pretend to be holding the bridle of the horse I'm 'riding'. It feels good to do it in open spaces, but it's bad for my knees and I get winded easily.

I used to love to lay on top of bookcases when I was little. I wish one could still support me now.
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: December 3rd, 2005 06:15 am (UTC) (Link)
I do the yawn thing too XD I also make a "AWRUUF" sound like a dog does when I yawn. Not entirely purposefully but it feels better when I do it, like screaming on a rollercoaster or something. I also snarl at the beginning and end of a yawn.

Sometimes I'll listen to the same song hundreds of times on repeat. When I'm finally tired of the song, I won't listen to it again for months. I don't do this around other people to keep from annoying them. Similarly I do not have problems eating the same kind of food for weeks on end - as long as it's not *leftovers*.

i so do that! lol it drives my hubby batty so when i like a song i'll wait till he leaves the car (or wherever) to say fillup and will play the song over and over until he comes back. thankfully i have a cd player and headphones at work and can do this as often as i like. usually 4 or 5 times before i get distracted enough to let it move on.

and though i love variety of foods (everything from soup to aloo gobi to sushi to chow mein, etc) i can eat lots of it. specially if i get a craving. and leftovers creep me out. i can do leftovers the next day, but after that if the hubby doesn't eat it, it gets tossed. some food, like pizza, i can't do leftover at all.

I am secretly OCD, I swear.

I also must sleep underneath something.

If one of my fingers pops, I must pop the wrist on that hand. If it doesn't pop, I will swivel my wrist back and forth until it DOES pop.

I used to have a terrible stutter. I would say a sentence and something would tell me that I pronounced the last word wrongly. So, I'd go back and try to correct myself very quickly. I would, of course, think that I mispronounced it again and would start stuttering in a failed attempt to say the word correctly. Sometimes, this happened even when I pronounced the word or phrase right in the first place.

I cannot STAND having my hands immobolized. If I have my hands gripping an arm rest and someone wraps their hands around mine or somehow keeps them from moving, I will flip out.

People touching my face seriously disturbs me. Unless I am VERY comfortable with you, please do not touch my face. When I was younger, a clown at a birthday party decided he would paint a sun on my cheek. When it started to dry, I rushed into the bathroom and scrubbed it until every scrap of make up was washed off.

When I've been sitting down for too long, my right leg starts jittering up and down. If that goes on for a while, my left leg joins in. Most of the time, I don't even notice it.

My thumbs are double jointed. If one of them pops out of its socket and then slips back in, I feel the need to even it out by doing it to the other thumb.

Ants scare the living crap out of me. Ask me about the demon bread sometime and I'll tell you the whole story in person.

I think that's a good amount for now. I'm sure there are a couple more, but I can't think of them off the top of my head. In any case, I think I hide all of my little eccentricities fairly well.

Oh god, I do the buttcheek thing too. Except these days I've taught myself to do it with the leg muscles at the upper front of my legs so it isn't QUITE so weird if I get caught.

I chew my lip, sometimes too much - sometimes I nibble little bits of skin off it. :P

I also bite my nails, but these days only in times of MAJOR stress. Usually I can grow them out more or less ok. With Robbie away, they're shorter now than they've been in a while though. :\

I click / grind my teeth together to music. I force myself to stop whenever I catch myself doing it because over time it'll wear the teeth down.

When I go swimming and I duck underwater, as SOON as I break the surface I have to wipe a hand over my face before I open my eyes. Physically CAN'T open my eyes unless I've done that hand movement. It's not like it accomplishes anything; it doesn't get rid of much water off my face... it's just a compulsion.

Sometimes when I'm very absorbed in a book I'm reading, I flick my finger over the corner of the pages, making a sound with them. I don't usually realise I'm doing it 'til Robbie tells me (it drives him nuts).

I like it when I'm sitting still, reading or whatever, and I feel my leg going numb. Sometimes I remain very still and let it go completely numb, all the way up to ABOVE the knee. Then I get up and hobble around and enjoy the weird feeling - the knee doesn't work properly and it feels like your whole leg is made of wood.

I have this thing Robbie calls a 'nose button' - in the end of my nose, even though it LOOKS totally normal, if you touch the tip firmly you can feel two edges of cartilige. Between them is a small space that can be pressed inwards, like a button. I sometimes catch myself pressing the tip of my nose repeatedly while I'm deep in thought.

Along a similar line, I have a scar under my chin, and when I'm thinking HARD about something I stroke it like I've got an invisible goatee or something.

I got over this one, but when I was a kid and I hung washing out on the line, we used to have these colourful pegs... and I ALWAYS had to match them. If I was hanging a shirt, I couldn't use a blue peg and a yellow peg - the colors had to be the same.

When I'm drawing, I pull the expression that I'm drawing on the page. For instance, if I'm drawing a scared / horrified character, my OWN FACE will UNWITTINGLY look extremely scared / horrified. A lot of people have noticed this. They think I scowl a lot when I'm doing Crikey Duck because it takes a lot of concentration, but really, it's just because I'm drawing Darrell. ;P Robbie thinks it's fucking hilarious, and has vowed to take a photo of me doing it next time he catches me.

Y'know, this was fun; I think I'm going to repost this in my LJ. You've just made a new meme. ;)

OH man. X) That face-while-drawing thing? I do it, too. And since I'm always drawing during class, I keep getting the weirdest looks from people. And they're all "Are you okay?" ... It's fun but annoying at the same time. :)

Before I did the counselling/zoloft/and eventually just BC (yay hormones), I had a really, really hard time making any sort of decision. I'm still really indecisive, but now, reaching in the drawer for a fork doesn't require me to stand there and think extremely hard about it. Back in the day, I felt impending doom depending on which fork I'd pull out of the drawer. Take one, put it back, take another, put that back, grab the first, etc. UGH. I'm so glad that only happens sometimes now. x)

When I'm on sleep deprivation, I start to see things. Notabely spiders at first, then a man out of the corner of my eye that I've dreamt about. He's the one that always murdered/raped me in my nightmares.

Kind of like your being covered, I have to sleep with something over my feet. Often if it's hot or whatever, I'll just have the blankets over my feet and nothing else. Doing that makes me feel protected from whoever is lurking in the hallways.

I cannot run water in front of a mirror in the dark. Not even natural light, most of the time. I always have to flip the lightswith on even if it's just for something really quick.

... yeah. Aren't quirks fun? :D
tiger_melanie From: tiger_melanie Date: December 3rd, 2005 08:37 am (UTC) (Link)
I have to sleep with a sheet covering my butt - I don't care about the rest of me, but my butt MUST be covered!

I can't stand having someone pour water over my head... I can handle a shower, but from a cup? I cringe & shrink right up & won't sit still (my fiance will wash my hair for me sometimes & I'm always moving all over the place XD)

I can't sketch - If I draw a sketch, I keep erasing my old lines until I'm happy with the new ones, & they're the only ones on the page. I can't leave it alone until it's detailed enough to show to other people, otherwise it drives me nuts. I'm working to fix this & actually leaving lines all over the page, which I find helps me immensely when I'm drawing

I never wear nail polish, because I don't like having to use nail polish remover - I used to use q-tips or cotton balls & they'd get caught on my nails. Even just thinking about it now, I'm getting chills down my spine

I don't like swimming in a lake where I can't see the bottom. I'm afraid of what's down there that I can't see

I can taste colours - I don't mean that I inhale crayons or anything, but Red jolt cola tastes like Red. There's no other word to describe it. There's other flavours like that, but I can't remember them now

I can't finish video games - aside from Katamari, I've only finished maybe 5 games in my life (including my nintendo & sega roms that I can save at any time & come back to & cheat on) - I play for a few hours, get bored, put them away, & when I come back, I forget where I was & start over again

I can't do 'small talk' - which is horrible since I work on the phone all day & get about 4 awkward silences per call :P

I think this was my longest comment ever
