Romans Romans Romans Romans
Yesterday silber and I went sightseeing, our first stop was an old Roman fortress that is about 1,800+  years old that had since been reconstructed and turned into a museum.

Omg I have no nose!

The outside wall that was built to keep Germanic tribes out since obviously fighting them back didn't work out as well as planned.

The front gate

Icicles on the building

Standing in the courtyard was definitely a magical experience. With the dusty snow falling from overhead and no sounds going on the background you almost felt as if you had been transported back in time, and we half expected to see Roman soldiers in their winter wear walk past. The feeling in this place was just beyond powerful, mere pictures dont do it justice at all.

Me near one of the towers you can see from the front, only this time from the inside

Inside the buildings they had artifacts that they had found on the site, here is a genuine Roman helmet, which of course I had to get several ref photos of.

Romans Romans Romans Romans Romans Romans Thornwolf Thornwolf!

This is how the fortress was intended to look way back in the day, most roman buildings are this white and red color.

More photos later when I edit the ones of the castle we went to!

Castle in the snow is undeniably cool. It even makes it into the uber-cool category.

Although... I really hope in that first pic that it's snow in your hair, and you don't have dandruff.

OMG, Noseless Thorn = anime character!!!

It's impressive looking, but huh. The BRIGHT red is rather jarring, they seldom show so much of that in Roman-ish textbook stuff. It probably would seem softer without all the snow.

I'm expecting more gladiator sketches from you now ;-)

These are my favorite of your pictures so far! When I visited Germany it was so amazing to see these things that had been built centuries ago. Now I'm totally jealous and want to go ;D

Yes, this is the same Fortress that is shown in "The Roman Legions In Colour Photographs" by Dan Petersen. But it looks so nice in the snow. I hope you picked up brochures and pamphlets while you were there. It looks amazing in the snow. Roman "Winter wear" would have been loose red woll pants (sometimes brown), and unbleached wool thick socks, and their red cloaks pulled in tight. I love those "time travel" moments. One of the attractions to re-enacting. Art Note: mid the perspective, and lay in the lines first should you wish to use these as background reference, before you draw the figure.
