Badge - Lanakila
Badge for lanakila

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Well in this one I tried two things. I tried to take some of your advice from the "things that bug you about my art" post and fix the way I do text on my badges. You're right =)

Also, I tried to play a little more with digital painting. I love experimentation.

Lana, I'm sending you the high res file now so you can print it out for AC =)

That badge rules just because of the eagles expression. And how ludicrous the nick is.
It sounds like a brazilian/indonesian soap opera.

i wouldn't say ludicrous at all, he adopted the name from a book.
kuniopt From: kuniopt Date: June 13th, 2006 08:12 pm (UTC) (Link)
It still sounds ludicrous. In the same way the word "hipotenouese" or "BOADICEA" is ludicrous.

Hi Kuniopt.

Ludicrous nickname, eh? Heh! As likeshine indicated, the name "Lanakila" was referenced from a bald eagle character that came from the 1992 novel Catamount. It's the fantastic story of a bald eagle who befriends a mountain lion and share adventures together. A very wonderful animal fantasy novel, if you're into such things!

Surprisingly enough, the name "Lanakila" is used extensively throughout the state of Hawaii. Do a websearch on "Lanakila" and you'll be introduced to a whole tonne of different sites!

Anyways, just thought I'd get you used to my nickname. It's not as ludicrous once you get to know the name! Eeek!

Take care!

That is just awesome; so much character and ACTION! YAY! :)

Looks good! The text looks like it 'fits right' much better too. =)

Been meaning to ask you, would you want a digital badge like this one instead of a real media one? My markers are still packed so it might be awhile =/
xianjaguar From: xianjaguar Date: June 13th, 2006 05:27 pm (UTC) (Link)
Sure. Digital is fine... whatever you want to do.
Did you ever get the badge, BTW? I mailed them all last week, Kanashimi got hers, but I didn't hear anything from you or Westly. I hope they arrived safely!

No I haven't gotten it yet =/ I'll check the mail again today though.

What did she say about the text? I always thought it was fine, although this definitely works great too.
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: June 13th, 2006 05:32 pm (UTC) (Link)
She? A couple of people mentioned that my text has no heart and doesn't look like it belongs on the image, which I can agree with. Its like I spent so much time on the image and not enough on the text, so I tried to fix that.
kylet From: kylet Date: June 13th, 2006 07:17 pm (UTC) (Link)
Lana's a guy? ^ ^;; Sorry, the name fooled me.

Huh. I always thought the text looked fine, and it at least matched because you made a real point of integrating the colors very well. But I guess that's the cartoonist in me, plus the fact that I think the text should look noticeably "separate" from the image...
lanakila From: lanakila Date: June 14th, 2006 01:25 am (UTC) (Link)
*chuckles softly*

Yep. Lanakila's a guy! Though I often wonder what it might be like to role play a female bald eagle. I'm sure I would attract the attention of many male avians galore! *snickers quietly*

I think what misleads people is that Lanakila ends with "a". Names ending in "a" sounds more feminine, for some strange reason. Like "Nala" from The Lion King, or "Falina" from Bambi.

Weird, to say the least.

However, a name like "Akela" is the name of the male wolf elder from The Jungle Book. So go figure the logic, eh?

Anyways, you wouldn't be the first person to mistake me for a female.

Heehee! Silly tiger! Squawk!

Sawry. ^ ^;; Honestly, Lanakila as a whole is pretty gender-neutral, since it looks exotic enough to probably not be stuck on Western "a=female" conventions. But I've just known a couple women who go by Lana...

wow that looks great! It's got the softer color quality that I love in your marker badges.

Thank you for the picture, Thornwolf! I look forward to printing out the con-badge in the next little while. I can also let you know if I need a revised file if the image appears to big.

I also have Photoshop here at the aerie, so I could also do my own picture manipulation. I'll see how it goes first!

*smiles*

Thanks again.

Wow, that's really nice! I like how the white isn't just a straight color, but a mixture of other hues. =)
