I tend to think all the crocodiles in the world are sighing with releif right now to know they will never be mounted and bound by him ever again. But I'm being extra cynical now, it really is very sad. Animal Planet wont be the same without him. :[

Funny. Considering the very few that got "mounted and bound" as you said, the many should be thanking him that he fought to make sure that wealthy tourists weren't allowed to hunt them on australian safaris.

Oh yeah, totally. He was a performer and an environmentalist, no doubt about that. I'm just poking a little fun at the subject of what Steve Irwin is most renowned for, is all.

Hear, hear. :( I almost feel like I lost a friend, and I never knew the guy. He will be missed.

I still remember when I first saw him one rainy sunday afternoon on televison. It was "an than Ima gonna grab Grahams tail, and cripes! he saw me!" I mean, Ok, he exaggerated occasionally, but still he respected the animals and brought us a lot of marvelous pictures and knowledge in a natural and humorus way.He had courage and a passion for what he did. Its sad. but then again nature remains wild and I often wondered how long it would take. he had a dangerous life. But I never thought it would end with a stingray.And this early. *sighes*

(oh, I wanted to add that something is weird with the image, I mean it is lovely, but when I use netscape and try to reply the image blocks all and I had to reply via explorer... weirdness of the networld...)

Just as I looked at this, the news made mention of it in the other room. Weirdness.

I can't believe he's gone, though. ;_;

I really love this picture as a tribute. It's so sad to see him gone, but his work to give crocs better press will live on.

You know, now that I remember it. He was here in Fort Collins I think last year? They were filming a veterinary show at our teaching hospital. Too bad I didn't drop by that day.

If I'm noticing one thing about folks on this subject is so many people are being such damn hypocrits abouu their thoughts on his techniques as a conservationist.

Why did he 'wrestle' most of those crocs? it was so they didn't have to use sedatives that would have killed them...imagine that! They also took extra precautions to help settle the animals down.

By the by, nice illustration.

I hope you don't mind my linking to this page as "the best Croc Hunter tribute I've yet seen" in my LiveJournal. I love the way you turn the phrase "crocodile tears".
