FA - The art of Thornwolf — LiveJournal
Well. The FA verdict is up and I can't read my FA messages. They're probably more streams of personal attacks I received over my seemingly "wrong" opinion and, funny enough, my avatar. How convenient.

This blows.

It will be interesting to see how many people who said they were going to leave actually do. I'm not thrilled about leaving but you know what? It's far better to show consequence than flip flop, otherwise people won't take you seriously.

And I have to say honestly for those who were blowing a lot of hot air in the heat of the moment and threatening to leave, I will personally say that if you don't I won't be able to take you seriously anymore. Nothing hostile here, just fact. I'm of the opinion don't write alligator checks your chickadee ass can't cash, or something. I really despise a wishy washy attitude and its that kind of attitude that caused most of this drama in the first place.

There's a lot of things bothering me in the matter, one that sticks out immediately is the fact that the poll was worthless, but eh. Whatev. If FA's policies change again later on in the future I may return but for now I'll just say it's not my cup o' tea and leave the drama where it is.

I'm leaving my art up for a week so people who want to save it on their computers may do so, after that I'm gonna move on.

Current Mood: disappointed disappointed

Definatly good for you. I'm at the point now where really, I don't know how to feel. I'm more irritated then anything else.
I'm more leaving now out of the utter awe at how insane people are.

Yeah thats pretty much it for me too. All else aside, even if there was a ban I'd feel really weird about staying because of how much of a bitchfit there was surrounding it. God. Grow up people.

I mean seriously I had people digging to find anything to ridicule me about even though I didn't talk to them at all, just because I had a different opinion than them. Way to waste time!

Hey Sparkle =) Nice to see you on LJ

Anyhoo, how I feel about it? Weeeell, considering I feel strongly enough to go through the trouble of pulling my art, I'd say I'm pretty damn against pornographic cub art.

I honestly don't feel it should have been a quesiton in the first place but obviously the mods wanted to give it a fighting chance for democracy (which I thought was cool to begin with) but since the poll went in favor of a ban and they allowed it anyways, so much for democracy.

I don't think less of the mods, they were between a rock and a hard place of course, but I have to say it does make me feel a little squicked, and I'd feel weird staying anyways due to the amount of support "the other side" got. Its like finding out your neighbors are dealing drugs out of their home kind of feeling. Icky.

Like I said though if their policies change over time I may return but for now it just doesn't meet my requirements.

I've already pulled my gallery and am going to email them tomorrow about deleting it.

Im still gonna keep it, just no art. I want to be able to tell folks where I am, and yanno, keep my name "mine".

Are you going to move on to a different gallery? I appreciate being able to see people's art and or adult art that they don't post other places. I feel and fear that now its going to be a hunt and peck game trying to find peoples art I adored again. I understand the emotions behind this, and I am not voicing any opinion because I am a very Drama Free Furry, thanks a bunchie... but yeah. I hope I can find everyone. Are you just going to not post anymore adult peices?
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: November 6th, 2006 03:16 am (UTC) (Link)
I will not post any adult art on this journal anymore, no, but if I find another LJ community (locked and age restricted) or another gallery I will be sure to notify folks here. I just don't want my adult art readily available for folks to accidentally find. My stepmother reads my LJ because she's very nosey and thinks I'm 12 and need monitoring, and as funny as it would be for her to get poked in the eye with furry dong (respectfully), I really don't need the drama.

I can understand. I make a simple comment and someone bitches at me for no apparent reason...
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: November 6th, 2006 03:17 am (UTC) (Link)
I wasn't even talking to someone directly and they felt the need to go off and call me a "wannabe Beavis", referring to this icon of course, OH HO HO HO! They sure told me who's boss! They then proceeded to basically yell at me and say my opinion was wrong. Im like "uh..who the hell are you?"
featherlady_jt From: featherlady_jt Date: November 6th, 2006 03:26 am (UTC) (Link)
I pulled everything out of my gallery. I couldn't locate an email, so I IM'd one of the admins asking to have my account deleted. Said admin writes back with "I resigned as an admin saturday because the cub thing blew up so huge and was not handled WHEN I ORIGINALLY SOUNDED A WARNING BELL MONTHS AGO and instead was debated into oblivion and ignored. Thus, there is no possible way I could remove your account.

- ####, ex-admin "

And I'm supposed to sift through the mountains of drama and KNOW this person quit? Oh spare me! Just give me a name, not the drama! 9__9

Yeah, lack of professionalism = reason #37 FA is just not for me at this point in time.

As much as people loathed it I wish people were more professional like Yerf. Like...halfway between Yerf professionalism (which admittedly got to be way too rigid in the last days and somewhat gestapo-esque) and FA professionalism (which in light of everything seems to be "say whatever you want, enforce whatever rules you choose to enforce, look the other way when you see something iffy") and it would be ok. So far I like it on Artspots how the maintainers are being as neutral and open as possible while still having their goals in mind. I guess the main thing I disagree with is the /amount/ of mods there were on FA. I know it takes a lot of work to run a site that huge but too many cooks spoils the soup, and considering all the internal drama that sprouted that seems to be true =/ I hope the FA team recovers after all this, truly I do, there's nothing worse than internal drama when you're a mod and there's a huge decision to be made.
mitsu_chan From: mitsu_chan Date: November 6th, 2006 03:29 am (UTC) (Link)
This whole thing is so ridiculous. I'm pretty damn upset over it.

I don't think I'll be posting art up there for the time being and posting a journal entry stating why- if things don't change in a couple of weeks I'll be taking everything down. :(
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: November 6th, 2006 03:38 am (UTC) (Link)
It didn't need to escalate like this. Even in the "decision" thread where they posted the verdict they're leaving it open when its attracting MORE drama. God...just...be moderators, step in, and don't give the babies their bottles...time to lay in some spankings.

Obviously the "24 hour suspension" thing isn't working because people are saying a final "fuck you" and going down in flaming glory while still getting their chides in.

Way to handle things. 9_9

And yeah I know I'm allowing discussion on my LJ about this but I'm not a multi user forum and I gave up my position of professionalism a long time ago.

I thought about leaving my art but I didn't want anyone to think the account was still active.

Eh, I felt the need to write an entry at least telling people where to find me. I don't feel right just "vanishing", but you know that's hard for me to do anyways.

If people go off on me and say that shit, well whatever, I'm not thrilled with it but those are the types of people I don't wish to associate myself with anyways.

"There are many kinds of activities which are illegal: rape, drug use, incest, bestiality, driving a car too fast, smoking a cigarette in a pub, etc. The list could go on and on...

...Fur Affinity allows users to post art based on all of the above interests with no repercussions."

Given the justification for allowing the cub porn artwork, it makes me want to stay far away from FA. O_o Too much freedom and you end up with anarchy, or at the very least a serious lack of morals.

It's definitely a shame that those who want to leave based on the decision are being labeled as "attention grabbers." There's nothing wrong with sticking to your principles and protesting a decision that you disagree with by leaving. Anyone who would stick by their principles, despite personal costs, headaches, heartaches, etc are definitely richer for doing it.

So where will you host the bulk of your artwork now, Thorn? (Not counting the adult stuff.) ^^;
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: November 6th, 2006 03:44 am (UTC) (Link)
Here as always. FA was a good gallery concept wise. As for adult stuff I don't know just yet.

I..I just still don't know why it's even a question. Its not even like a huge portion of people draw pedo art, but the fact that there was such a huge stink over "PLZ ALLOW IT!!!" really makes me feel icky.

I salute you

For sticking to your guns and not backing down from something that you honestly believe in. The fact that so many people think this type of art is perfectly ok scares me.

Re: I salute you

Thank you, really that means a lot to me =)

Thank you!

I saw so many artist that said they would leave, and then didn't. Thank you thank you.
You were already cool in my book. Now you are just awsome.
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: November 6th, 2006 04:12 am (UTC) (Link)
lol thanks! Well if removing my art won me cool points I should be really popular with the pro-cub art folks by now, unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case but oh well XD
reyfox From: reyfox Date: November 6th, 2006 04:22 am (UTC) (Link)
Two words: Poisoned well.

A few more words: I don't think the poll was useless, it was just their way of gauging which way the wind was blowing. If the pro-ban side had won a supermajority (2/3) or more, then they might have sucked it up and kept the ban in place, but the "mandate" of +1 votes just wasn't enough to sway the mods off their high horses.

I don't think my viewership ever really recovered from their first crash anyway (another consequence of problems at the top, another strike against them). I think deleting my art would let me get this behind me. Might wait out the rush a bit though.
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: November 6th, 2006 04:23 am (UTC) (Link)
Poisoned well? Could you please elaborate? I'd like to hear your thoughts, but I'm afraid I don't understand.
shadow_weaver From: shadow_weaver Date: November 6th, 2006 04:23 am (UTC) (Link)
I'm packing my bags at FA too, or will as soon as I can reach the site. I'm really sad to go, I really liked the community and the number of people who were able to see my art. But I just can't ignore their decison. I suspect eventually another furry community will pop up to fill the void. I'll definatly make sure to watch ya there when it happens if you decide to join ;)
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: November 6th, 2006 04:24 am (UTC) (Link)
Likewise =)

Every gallery has their problems, but FA was the closest to everything I wanted. But, like they say, you can't have everything, and this was too big of a "something" for me to ignore unfortunately.
