This show used to be aggressively pedestrian and unfunny, I'm glad to see they finally gave in and started using the Nazis more prominently, since there is inherent comedy for them.

from the clips silber showed me the Nazis indeed were pretty prominent. :)

Actuallly, from what I have seen, the germans in that show were pretty prominent from the very beginning on. Not so certainly, if you take the word "nazi" by its meaning and not a generalisation. Gestapo and SS officers only got there later.

During it's early years (1982-85) which I saw in England as I was living there at the time, they concentrated on mocking the French. Now, the French are easy to parody, but there are only so many surrender/accent/collaborate jokes to be made before the well runs dry. They started to work on the Nazis after 1986 it seems.

Re: YAY! for Allo Allo

Hah, same here, they used to run it back to back constantly here, so I probably saw the whole thing 5 times in its entirety, and have a couple of seasons on CDs. I should see if one can get the whole thing as an affordable boxset, a la Blackadder.

...and not like Red Dwarf, in segmented bits of either afforable Just The Shows or ridiculously overpriced Okay This Is How DVDs Usually Are.

I love Allo, Allo! It's too funny to see the Germans stuff the salami down their pants and have a coo coo clock pop out of his fly.
