This is the big version of the icon done for fierycatthing

And here's the un-adjusted version just for giggles to go along with the topic of my previous post:

Opinions, which do you like better? Don't worry there's no right answer to this, I'm honestly curious.

fierycatthing tell me which one you like better and I'll small-ify it for you.

I like the first one better, the colors seem to Pop more, and the lines are more bold. The second one looks a little...washed out.

The one with more contrast is definately better. It gives it more life, like the fire is actually RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF HER FACE, rather than, "Oh look, a painting of some fire".

I prefer the first one. The fire "glows" much better using a higher contrast. :)

This likely will conflict with others will say, but I like aspects of both rather than just one. The first picture's colors look too caustic and saturated to me, and the second's, too washed out. I tend to be in the middle anyway, though. :)

Pair the higher-contrast background and back of her neck, and keep the lighter area for her face for some punchier illumination, and I think that'd rock harder than either on their own.

I'd suggest layering 'em on top of each other in Photoshop and erasing parts of the upper layer to see what happens. You may like mashing 'em together more than either one presently!

I'm liking the first one. Second one seems a bit washed out to me.

yeah 1st one's colors are nice and rich, but the 2nd one looks a bit whit washed. Maybe desaturate it a bit and bump up the contrast a lil. Might like it more. They're great either way.

The adjusted one for the sake of 'popping', as you mentioned, but the piece itself is beautiful too. My opinion on the last post is that no amount of tool use or fiddling is going to make a 'bad' piece of art 'good'-- if it could, then that would be cheating. This is refinement.

I like the one with the contrast cranked up.

I honestly prefer the first original version. The second one just looks too washed out.

Definitely the first- I think you just need to look at your adjusted stuff and go "huh, so the contrast and punchy colours looks good," and then try to integrate it on your own. Using levels is a wonderful thing, and it helps a hell of a lot in terms of learning what makes art more attractive. Makani, for instance, puts a color "overlay" layer on her work to unify the colours... Its photoshoppery, yes, but it looks good, and her colour sense has gotten better as a result. :)

First one. More contrast between the light and dark areas make the picture really pop.^^

Top one. More contrast, feels truer to the character.

Interesting! I like the finished/top version better. The colors really pop!

Top. Pictures with fire DEMAND more contrast. Like how I always demand cowbell. *grooves*

Oh god, I'm speechless 'cause of the awesome. I love it! *drools* :O

And personally, I like to higher contrast version better, 'cause it makes the fire POP. :D

I like the first one. Much more contrast, make the fire stand out more, and more light contrastiness (is that a word?? x.x) like what I would expect from a strong light source.

Though the coloring and such is still strong in the un-adjusted form. :)
