The art of Thornwolf
Not feeling so well, I think I'm coming down with something.

Anyways I'm trying to use my free time to draw non furry related things, but I'm really rusty. Okay a lot rusty. Good lord I can't draw hands.

Advanced critique and redlines strongly encouraged! :D :D :D Please?

I like the piece, and will defer to better eyes as to what may need to change on it.

I'm not in a position for redlining (no tablet!)

But offhand I can say that something's strange for me with her shoulder facing us. I know the sketch is incomplete, but it's hard to tell what that arm is doing?
(the hand looks good, by the way!)
Not that anthro anatomy is much different than human, but that stands out for me.

the eyes seem awkward (I've been having trouble with this lately also) I can't put my finger on it.

I would say for you to try flipping the picture digitally.. I do this with my work lately because the mistakes become a little more apparent this way. If it looks peachy flipped both ways, then it's a solid construction.

Er, not much help I dont' think, but thought I'd drop that in!

her hand is going to be hidden with plants and stuff so thats why I didn't bother drawing it, but yeah ive been having a /seriously/ hard time with the eyes. I don't draw humans much anymore and I'm way out of practice. Flipping it, now theres an idea i should have thought of. I'll try that after I get some more comments on what to fix. Thank you!

I know you like heavier redlines, so I did one meant to be taken with as much salt as you'd like. :) This thing is really close, so I think subtle changes will make it work. Tipping the angle of the head upward a bit and pushing it back on the neck makes it a little less uncomfortable and, for the eyes, just try emphasizing the roundness of the eyeballs and the sockets to make them fit into the face. The body redline is just me- there were a few little anatomical fiddly bits, but I also have large trapezius muscles and so you can sort of just take that as me going to town.

Hope it helps,

Mmmm salt

Claire have I told you lately that I love you? Seriously this helps so much THANK YOU and yes, you're right, I love nitty gritty redlines. I also have large trapezius muscles...(grandma says I look like a football player when I wear a turtleneck :( ) XD

This really helps make it look less stiff. Thank you for taking the time to do this for me!

The hand and the fingers are pretty small in proportion to the the head. Generally speaking the hand should be large enough to cover the face.

The first knuckles on digits are back further towards the wrist than might be expected/assumed, allow the hand that slight bit of "webbing" towards the palm(thinking in the direction from the back of the hand to the palm) and you'll be fine.

Perhaps you could think more about purpose and placement of the hand as opposed to composition or correct construction? The bent finger feels out-of-place, though I think I get why you did so. Straight fingers can feel "uninteresting."

This makes me feel somewhat perverted to only have this to mention, but since it hasn't been... I think the right breast (her left) should be facing towards the viewer a little more. It's kind of squished towards the front as if she were wearing a bra, but since there's no support there -- and her arm isn't pushing it in any way to justify its position -- it shouldn't be where it is. When breasts don't have support, they naturally hang off the sternum at an angle to each other (I've heard you can draw a 90 degree angle from the top of the sternum to the nipples to figure out the position, and this generally works for me when placing breasts that aren't being affected by anything, but I've also heard this isn't true, so). It's unnatural for them to both be facing the same direction unless they're both being pushed that way. Umm, I could do a redline if that would help.

Ahh, I'm sorry I'm late then. :<

Here's a redline. I don't consider myself the resident expert on breasts, but this is kind of how I approach it.

I think she looks fine. :D The bottom's a wee bit messy, but the top is fine. I love her expression and her hair - she almost looks like a woodland fairy or something...^^;
