Political cartoons? In /my/ vagina?
This /seriously/ was my reaction to the term Waterboarding when I first read about it....last week. I can be such a moron sometimes.

All political debates in my journal will be squished so don't even try it. Just lookit the pretties.

Current Mood: cynical cynical

Weird. I was joking with some friends on how I would like to go snowboarding, skateboarding and waterboarding. :p

LOL great expressions!
And you're not the only one who had that misunderstanding of the term :P

That joke has been passed through my lab. Usually, its become the nonsense response to a question we can't answer:

"... waterboarding?"
"YES! Don't forget your towel!"

When I heard the term "Waterboarding", what I pictured in my head was actually called "Wakeboarding". Ha ha. And here I thought they were giving the terrorists surfing lessons. Silly me.

I find it depressing and refreshing that this is the first illustrated example of waterboarding I've seen.

I hear it so god damn often on the multiple AM radio stations I listen to that the mental image just makes me giggle.

Well, this is the first time I've heard the term, so I had to look at the link you posted and geez, that IS awful! O_o But like you, the first image that popped into my head upon reading the term was what we used to call "zip-sledding", where you lay on a sled-like plastic board and get pulled behind a boat--so much fun! And my reaction was, why in the world would they ban that?? XD :P

(I so need a "durr" icon for comments like these!) XD

Oh maaaaaaaan. Reading all these comments towards waterboarding I really have to wonder how much americans actually care for what is going on around them. These and other practices practices have been internationally critizised for "years" and are a major reason for the hhuge loss of US morale authority not only in the islamic world, but also within all major Nato powers.

Gnnnnn. K, gotta respect the no political discussion order, but hrsn.

I wondered myself. But honestly, you know me, and I don't consider myself an ignorant person, but I don't know half of what is going on with the higher-ups. The CIA makes it it's business to be out of view of the public. No one really knows what they do unless you seek it out, and even then there's no straight answers.

the purpose wasn't to be lethal. it was to be near-lethal but leave no marks like whipping would. it /can/ be lethal though. It can create what's called "dry drowning" where your body over-prepares itself for the shock of drowning and your throat spasms and your heart stops out of fear.

...and there's nothing different from today's version than the Spanish Inquisition version, there's just been a variety of methods used, either your face is covered by a cloth or a cloth is put in your mouth or your face is covered by cellophane. It all works just about the same and creates the same reaction.
