Advice and possible help?
So, I'm a little torn about my Przewalski piece. I didn't anticipate buying artshow space because honestly I was just way way way busy with work and school and didn't want to have another thing to stress over.

Vantid had offered to give me space to sell it but turns out since her space is General and this piece has nipples, I can't sell it on her panels.

Should I just sell the piece at my table? Or would someone allow me to put this one 8.5X11 piece in their adult show space, sorta piggyback on their panel and be given the money for it later (if it even sells)?

I'm not really sure what to do, I feel so ill prepared but...while I do have a set price for the image I admit I'm really attached to it and would like to show it off a little better than in a binder at my table, but I also don't want to cause someone else an inconvenience. Not to mention I always feel kind of weird putting stuff that's not meant to be sexual in the adult art show. :P

I dunno...what do you guys suggest?

I have (or should have) a half panel in adult I probably wont be using. You're welcome to it.

edit: typo

Thanks yelf :3 Folks are suggesting I put something to cover the nipples...I'm still thinking this through and will let you know, thank you for the offer!

Get it in the art show, for sure. any time I've sold stuff off my table that was meant for a show I got like 1/4th of what it typically would have gone for.

Also! You couldn't cover up just the nipples with a thin line of painter's tape (assuming it's matted and wrapped/protected/won't be applied directly to the art)?

It will be matted but I don't have a shrinkwrapper. should I try saran wrap? XD Ghetto I know but...

if it's all you got, go for it. Getting it in the general area would definitely be the best.

You could also try hitting up an Office Max and see if they'll shrink wrap it for you -- It's been a while, but when I worked in the copy center, I occasionally did it for people (and myself).

I think I'll do that. Thank you!

No problemo! <3

If nipples are the only problem, a couple of postit notes in the correct spots will make it permittable, I think. Ask the Art Show head and ask if one exception like this is permittable.

Putting post it notes on my work would potentially ruin it though.

BTW: ask vantid why she's pulled her LJ for me, please.

You can ask her.

Because of the nature of it (non-sexual) I would just post it in general and put tiny pieces of post-it or stickers over the nipples. Art show staff should be able to OK that for you, I've seen pieces hung like that before. Truth be told I think the general section gets more traffic and it might do better there. :)
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: January 16th, 2009 06:10 pm (UTC) (Link)
Im just wary of putting post it notes on it because even though i sprayed it, I worry about the post it notes lifting off or something. D:

Yeah traffic is also an issue... Hrm.

Get a cheap mat/frame?
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: January 16th, 2009 07:33 pm (UTC) (Link)
its not the matting or the framing thats the issue. its covering the piece. No glass is allowed in the artshow so I want a surface between the art and the censor stickers.
westly_roanoke From: westly_roanoke Date: January 16th, 2009 07:35 pm (UTC) (Link)
No glass is allowed in the art show? ::boggles:: I didn't know that...
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: January 16th, 2009 07:36 pm (UTC) (Link)
No because stuff might fall and break and then they'd have broken glass everywhere.
From: astolpho Date: January 16th, 2009 09:06 pm (UTC) (Link)
You sure? I just read through the rules and I didn't see a single word about glass. I hung loads of framed-under-glass pieces last year.
blackteagan From: blackteagan Date: January 17th, 2009 05:09 am (UTC) (Link)
Glass is allowed in the FC artshow. It's the AC artshow (because of the convention center's union rules) that does not allow glass. I suggest getting a Walmart frame and putting the matted piece in that, then sticker over the nipples.

Alternatively, some OfficeDepots have shrinkwrappers in their office/printing center. If you call around (and OfficeMax/Staples) I bet you could find one. It's typically like $1.50 or less. In a pinch, we've used them, though they don't generally know how to use the shrinkwrapper and we have to talk them through it. ;]

My husband has clear plastic artist's envelopes. You slip the work in, and it has adhesive on the flap to close it with. We will be in Crestline tomorrow for a home inspection. Would you like us to run some over to you? We have a ton of them.
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: January 16th, 2009 07:38 pm (UTC) (Link)
Oooh that would be wonderful! How big are they? The piece I have is 8.5X11 and with the matting probably about 2 inches bigger all the way around.

I'm not going to be home all day tomorrow save for early in the morning but that would be very kind of you if you're in the area anyways and might be able to drop some off on the front porch? I know that's kind of lame as I'd like to meet you at some point...

What's your email?
kokeshikitten From: kokeshikitten Date: January 16th, 2009 10:28 pm (UTC) (Link)
Dropping them off would be fine. My email is clhayman@msn.com My husband has a few sizes, so I will bring some of each. If they don't fit you could always use them for something else.
nambroth From: nambroth Date: January 16th, 2009 06:36 pm (UTC) (Link)
How big is it? If I have any extra, I have some film that you use a hair dryer to shrink wrap. Hotel rooms have hair dryers. :}

Or if you want you can get some yourself, any craft store or even walmart will have it in the craft sections. They use it to wrap baskets. It comes in a roll.

Then put some black bars over her nipples (on the shrink wrap) and hang that baby.
thornwolf From: thornwolf Date: January 16th, 2009 07:34 pm (UTC) (Link)
the drawing itself is 8.5X11 and with the precut matte I bought umm...a couple inches extra?

Lemme see if I can get staples to shrinkwrap it for me if not I'll totally hit you up on that offer :D

Comic book stores sell polypropylene bags for archiving of comic books. I don't remember the dimensions of the original artwork, but its possible it could be sealed in one of these bags using double-sided tape to secure the flap. They also sell support boards made of thin cardboard that fit firmly inside these bags. This is a potential option.

I think they also make bags out of Mylar, but those are more expensive. For short-term protection, this might work.
From: astolpho Date: January 16th, 2009 09:09 pm (UTC) (Link)
My local art store sells poly bags that correspond with the sizes of most standard precut mats. It's possible your local art store does too (though I know craft stores aren't liable to), if not I could grab you one, they're super cheap.

Sell it at the table! Just prop up an advertisement/frame for it at the table and bring it out if people want to see it. This is assuming FC rules allow you to cover up the bits and still display it.

Hey Thorn! Just wanted to tell you, I have extra space for it on my adult panel if you're willing to hang it there. I overestimated how much space I'd need, so I believe I'll have room for something of your horse piece's size. I also may have room for your lion/gladiator piece on a general art panel. One of my panels is filled with smaller pieces, and I'm sharing the other general panel with a friend of mine. =3 So I have plenty of room if you're up for it!
